Ugh!!!

I remember growing up in Tulsa we would camp at Ft Gibson Lake for a month or so with other families and my dad and the other fathers would commute in 45 minutes from their jobs in Tulsa every after noon then start fishing. Never had air conditioning or wanted it and we slept great at night even in the heat and humidity with no fan. We were acclimated to it, but I'm not acclimated anymore.

Here we get the "yeah, but it's a dry heat" comment all the time. Then there was the 113°F day I helped a coworker move apartment. The day progressed like this: move three boxes, take a drink; move three boxes, take a drink; two of you move a piece of furniture, take a drink. You may notice that despite all the drinking I don't mention the bathroom. Sure, it's a dry heat, but it'll still kill ya.

Friends of ours once had a Japanese exchange student that was complaining about the heat. With a straight face I started to describe to him the "secret American cooling technique" and had him try it step by step:

1. Take your right hand and straighten out your fingers and thumb, with all digits pressed together side-by-side.
2. Place that hand with palm facing down next to your face, and fingers pointing at your right cheek.
3. Quickly move that hand up and down.

Once his hand started moving he suddenly got it.
🤣🤣🤣 Hey, don't knock it kid; it works!!!

Heat just broke mid morn. While not living here my whole life, have never seen the temp not dip below 80 degrees (real hot nights were low to mid 70's) at night. Up here , while not nearly as hot as elsewheres, we are just not acclimated to 90's/mid 90's humidity. Fortunately bought new air con this year.

My sympathies for those of you in the nasty weather. We really can't complain here in the PNW. Right now, it's 74F and 50%. Filtered sunlight and a gentle breeze. Many of us don't have a/c. We have natural a/c consisting of open windows and cool evenings. I wish for the real thing a couple days a year when we break 90. But that passes in a few days and we go back to normal.

Pushing one hundred degrees here. That’s after three days of pouring rain. My backyard looks like Cambodia.

Best,

You made me laugh! We had 3" of rail last Thursday and my grass was getting pretty long, so I need to mow it before it got out of control. Here's our upcoming forecast...
