I recently bought a 19-3 Texas Ranger edition from a gentleman who really did the unthinkable.

He had it Ceracoted some time back.

The finish isnt terrible, but it's ceracote, not blued.

So a question is this, can it be brought back? Will S&W or any other refinisher be able to re-blue over ceracote or be able to remove the ceracote to re-blue?

I looked at it like this when I bought it, worst case scenario, I got a very good deal on a 19-3 shooter ($300) that just looks ugly ceracote gray

I'd recomend that you just leave it ceracote grey, stripping off that particular finish will prove to be an exceptional challenge. I suspect that you'll have to have it bead blasted off and that means that every roll stamp will become softened. Then it will have to be re-polished, blued, and oiled. End result will be the roll stamps will be so degraded that some of them may be unreadable. So, you'll have spend 300 dollars on a 300 dollar revolver to produce a revolver that is worth perhaps 200-250 dollars. As it is right now you have a 300 dollar shooter that is easy to clean up, darned hard to mark up, and likely a very good shooter.
