Well, I searched for a Pinto thread and did not find one. I've yet to see on in person and hope to own one someday. Must say I've seen some real beauties on here from time to time.

Were there any factory Pinto 27's?

Until then, why not get something started here to wet my appetite? Picture required and some history would be appreciated.

Here are the two I have. Both 19-3's, 4" and 2.5" and have letters on both.

No offense, but I don't get the appeal of a "pinto" revolver -- it just doesn't do anything for me. I kinda like the look of a 1911 with a blued slide on a dull nickel frame, but a revolver.... no thanks. All-blue or all-silver for me.
I'd never even seen a pinto revolver until I started surfing the handgun websites fairly recently. When you refer to "my two factory-lettered 3.5" pre-27 pintos", do you mean that they came from the factory as pintos?

hotrod150, no offense taken. Some have called them nothing more than "parts revolvers". If the gun is lettered from S&W it means that they came from the factory as a two tone revolver and were not taken apart and put back together by someone outside the factory. I like them, would like to have more of them, but finding them and having the funds to acquire them are two entirely different subjects. If everyone like the same thing, there would be only one S&W model.

Doc44 and 230grfmj, thank you for sharing those beautiful Smiths. They are stunning!

Jeremy Skipper used to have the market cornered on Pinto's but he may have used them to fund another project.

OH, I knew I was going to like the idea of this thread. Doc's are always staggeringly beautiful. And 230's pre-27's are very sharp. Interesting to see so many of the factory models also had the RR, even early on. Guess if you were going premium - go all out.

Thanks for sharing and hopefully there are more to come.

I hear you. Although GunHackers is nice.

Are both versions called "pinto" or is one a "reverse pinto"???

And a member a while back sent a 586 in for a pinto finish so yes the factory will refinish them like that.

Maxbob, I was told that the 2.5" M19-3 I have is a "true Pinto" and that the 4" M19-3 is a "reverse Pinto".

How about posting the two engraved examples once more. They are KILLER!

I decided to "release" those two guns recently to a good friend of mine and he is a member of this Forum. For him, acquiring those two engraved pintos added to an already incredible collection of Smith & Wessons that he has.

He may opt to post them in this thread before long and I hope he does.

Has anyone sent a revolver back to S&W to have it refinished as a pinto?
Or would they even do that?

Several years ago I sent two mint 19-4 2.5 inch guns (one blue, one nickel) back to the factory and had them swap barrels, barrel pins, cylinders, cylinder releases and side plate screws. It was inexpensive. No they didn't ship that way, but they were "sort of" factory pintos. I kept them for a while and then sold them to a forum member.
