Nope, not me. I am a light and very active sleeper. Nothing stay in place very long on our bed while I am sleeping in it. It is, however in the top drawer of my bedside cabinet which is open enough for me to get to it easily. Which I have proven to myself and a few family members who were in the wrong place @ the wrong time but thankfully never had to fire..

Years ago, I read a book by Robert Beatie about the BTK Serial Killer who terrorized Wichita. I grew up in that area during the 70s, and book brought back memories of events as they affected city residents at the time. Anyway, while reading the book I had a nightmare about what I was reading. I woke up to find two of my carry gun magazines under the pillow, but my pistol was still in the secure location I had left it. I agree very much that a nightmare, or the proverbial "bump in the night" when you are barely conscience, or still dreaming, could be a potential disaster. Best to have other measures in place to discourage unwanted guests or an alert system that causes you to awake fast enough to think clearly.

Never felt it was that dangerous in Crawford County, Pa. to sleep with a gun that close to me. Only thing crawling around at me friends house there after dark was the bear that comes around once in a while. Not going to use a handgun on it for sure.
Why not sleep under the nicely made bed, with the gun under the pillow, and possibly sleep through the entire intrusion. Or wake and be still, until the intruder has become complacent enough in assuming the dwelling is empty. Perfectly reasonable, right?
Jimmy's solution:
1.sleep in the nude
2. have a bright flashlight on your night stand
3. in the night stand drawer is a straight razor and a hand grenade with the pin pulled out half way.
4. on the stairs is placed freshly soiled diapers
In case of a break in :
the BG coming up he stairs will slip and slide and his cursing will alert me. Then when the BG makes it to my room door, I will be standing in the middle of the bed, illuminating myself with the flashlight. So far this has stopped the BG, so I have not had to employed the straight razor or hand grenade.
