Anyone know how many models were made with the unfluted cylinders? I'm slowing working my way through the SCS&W 4th and so far it looks like several of the M29 Hunter models have them, some of the 610 series (I've got one of these) and at least one model 60 offering. I'll post a list once I get finished but was just wondering any of you all had already gone down this path? TIA

They look good on some guns......

....not all guns look good with unfluted cylinders. But the ones I like I really like.

People talk about how the 7 shot 686 is stronger than the 6 shot because the flutes are spaced between the holes. I don't know if that makes a big difference but a solution would be not to have any flutes at all.

To me it's is reminiscent of the old Navy Colts.

I have a 3" 629, 2-1/2" 686 PC and 2-5/8" 629 PC, all with unfluted cylinders. I bought them for the length, and had no choice. I prefer fluted because they're easier to load by feel, and they don't seem to stick in the holster as much.

The flutes are always between the chambers. The notches are centered on the chambers in even-numbered versions, and between chambers in odd numbered versions. The metal is very thin if centered, and can bulge with overpressure, making extraction very difficult.
