I have a fairly unique Model 629-5 that I would like some help on if any one is knowledgeable.

My 629-5 is a 3 Inch barrel, double ported, with red ramp/WO rear. The serial number is MPK00** and it is not in the Standard Catalog serial number list.
The gun has non fluted cylinder, and is Round butt with Gripper rubber grips.

There is a Kodiak Bear laser etched on the right side of the frame and on the right side of the barrel, "Magnum Packer" is laser etched. Smith & Wesson 44 Magnum is laser etched on left side of the barrel.

I have no box so do not know product code. The numbers 001 are machine stamped into the cylinder crane on the inside and 629-5 is stamped into the frame inside the crane cavity.

Anyone have any info on this run or it's reasonable value? I have searched the Standard Catalog of S&W 2nd and 3rd Edition to no avail. Nothing listed there that I can find.

Here is a link to a set of photos I took of the gun:

Thanks in advance.

Hi, the photos did not come out on my computer...But from what you are describing some one else described the same gun...It sounds like a specialty gun from maybe Lew Horton or Camfour...I know that Lew Horton put out a mountain Back packer...I dont have my SCSW but look in the Lew horton section at the back of the book and see if you can find it...I will do the same tonight...

The pics open up fine for me, and that is one good looking revolver. I have never seen anything like that. If it is not in the book and nobody here is familiar with them, then there must not of been many made. Three inch M629's usually bring a premium.

GunsRUs,
I would be willing to bet that that gun was made for camfour...there are several references to quad ported 629-5's with the unfluted cylinder...several guns are made specifically for camfour, example..586L comp...I would call them and see if they ever offered a revolver like yours..if you cant get an answer call S&W and ask them...
