With Accurate #9 or anything else being almost impossible to find in these parts, how do you think Unique would work with a Hornady 158 gr FP/XTP for my 1979 Marlin Model 94 and also with the Model 19 and 66? My Lee Modern Reloading, 2nd edition lists loads for 158 gr. jacketed bullets with Unique but does not show any loads with Unique for the 158 gr. XTP. Would the load data for the jacketed bullets (7.2 - 7.8 gr) be in the correct range for the XTP or would the load data for the XTP be entirely different due to a different seating depth? I would not be wasting that many of the XTP's with Unique but wanted to give it a try depending on what recommendations I get here. I really want some Accurate #9 but can't find it anywhere but have Unique.

I use Speer #13's recipe for 158 jacketed (various) Unique 6.9 to 7.7. I use 7.4 behind the i59 XTP/FP. It's all my TRR has ever known. Kinda mild but dependable and accurate. YMMV

Thanks Gun 4 Fun and ButchD, that looks like the same data that's in my manual and in the previous edition of Allian'ts load data. More than likely there's no XTP data for Unique because it's not a good choice for a top shelf hunting and self defense bullet like the XTP. I'll probably give around 7.4 gr a try though.

Lyman's 49th shows 6.4 to 8.3 of Unique with a 158 XTP. They also use a Small Pistol Magnum primer. Altho I shoot a lot of XTPs, they're a little pricey for plinkin'. I use Remmie bulk SJHPs for that. My pet load for my 92 in .357 is 7.5grns under a 158 Remmie SJHP and a Small Pistol primer. It's no hunting load, but it's accurate and very pleasant to shoot.

Thanks for the info. I have about 1200 lead bullets for general plinking but picked up about 150 XTP's and wanted to check them out with Unique and the Marlin. I have just a little AA#5 left and the XTP's with that were a heck of a lot more accurate than the lead bullets with Unique in the Microgroove Marlin. I'm still playing around with different charges of Unique with the lead bullets in the Marlin, still haven't found the right combo yet., still experimenting. 6.2 gr of Unique under a 158 gr LSWC didn't do too well, went down to 5.5 gr and seemed to be a little better but not great. Going to try going up to 6.5 gr next and see how it goes. And on the bulk Remington sjsp or sjhp, I couldn't find any last tine I looked.

FWIW- 357 mag - 158 gr. XTP- CCI550 primer and 6.9 gr. Unique chrono'd 1311 fps out of a lever action Rossi w/ 18" barrel. I don't remember any details about accuracy I just recorded the data when my nephew was playing with his new Rossi and I was playing with my new chrono. For reference Remington factory 158 gr. JHP out of the same rifle chrono'd 1696 fps.

For the 357 mag. I use 6.8 of unique with the WLP under both the 158 XTP and a hard cast LSWC, they both shoot very well out of pert near all my 357's.

This doesn 't address your question, but is related to your problem. I've placed two orders for powder this summer, 1 from Natchez and the other from Cabela's. Both had a decent stock of most powder. If you need powder try mailordering it.
