I came across this rear sight. Never seen before. Since I like good target sights I bought it.
Investigation learned only that this is the site on which the seller bought it. I can't find the brand.

And that it is no longer for sale there. Most probably from Tsjechische production.
Should anyone know more please share.

I have a Millett on my 696 and it is a little wobbly. Put the other on it. I think I like the looks of the Millett just a little more but for now it stays on.

Nice looking sight. The maker's trade mark reminds me of CZ. Assuming your 696 is sighted in then filing down the Patridge front would make the rear less susceptible to damage and give you more elevation adjustment for long range. The diamond Targets are a nice touch. I'm glad to see that you are still enjoying your 696. :)

Aftermarket sights for S&W have a long history at least back to the King sights or earlier. The marking on top of your sight's body is totally unfamiliar to me, so I have no idea who may have made it, but just from the pictures, it looks like a very well designed. I wonder if there are any other markings your pictures don't show? Have you looked under the sight to see whether there are additional markings there?

Regardless of who made it, that looks like a very good, easily usable sight. The flat blade on the back surface should give a fine sight picture, especially with the serrations to cut glare. In addition, the rounded corners to eliminate hanging on holsters or clothing mimic work commonly done later and referred to as "melting." In short, I like it!

In reaction to your post I looked back, and to my surprise I have it 10 years now. Time flies.
It is my favorite gun.

CZ does sell a target sight with this marking, that is correct. Therefore I think it is Tsjechisch made.No other markings and strangely the only one I have ever seen here in Europe.
Maybe I can find or ask on the CZ forum who the maker is.

The front sight is a little high in deed. I made it myself because the highest S&W was to low for me and I like big sights.
Maybe a bit too high but I am going to leave it this way for now

Definetely Czech made.

Even one with a square end.

There were some dimensional differences within the square tang sights, they are not one size fits all. You need to measure the distance between the front mount screw and the elevation screw to make sure that you are getting the right one for your gun...
