Mailed my package 3/24, they cashed my check on 4/5, I called today 4/19 and spoke with a very unfriendly woman who told me my request had not been started yet and that it would take at least 90 day to process. Anyone else had that type of response. Other posts I have read said they were getting a fast turn around.

foxtail, its a shame its after the fact, but there are 5 or 7 Main district offices that handle the CCW here in Florida. The benefits are many, they will do the fingerprinting on site, and you save that fee from the Sheriffs office. They will also take the photo, so you save on the Passport photo fee too. Most imprtantly, you get the CCW in about 2 weeks, 3 at most. This is how I did mine years ago. You even do all of the application on the computer, at least in Palm Beach, it was a breeze. The women there helped me with the whole process from start to finish. Yes I drove 60 miles each way, but it was well worth it. Good Luck.

That would be great but I live in Illinois. Drive time might be a tad long. If I would have made the trip for spring break it might have worked.

Don't feel bad. I think they received my packet on 4/2 or 4/3 when I looked it up via USPS tracking, so I'm probably right behind you as mine is from out of state as well. :( Unfortunately I sent them a money order, so I can't tell when they cashed any type of check. I just have to wait to see when I get my permit in the mail.

they sent my renewal stuff about 6 months ahead

good thing

i missed the direction that the fingerprint card needed a stamp/seal
from the local pd so they sent it back to me

but.....they did cash my check right off the bat and when i saw it cleared
i thought i was good....silly me

still waiting.....it has been all told, about 4 months

could be any day now.....

oh....things go much faster if you can do the electronic prints
but many areas dont have this yet....

When I read the instructions it appeared that electronic prints could only be sent from within Florida.

Also, if you're planning on applying and you're out of state, be sure and request that you be sent at least one copy of the fingerprint card when you download the application form. The card is not downloadable, and you have to ask that one be mailed to you to take to your local sheriff or police department for completion.

My print card did not get stamped so mine will be comming back also. thanks.

Didn't read the part about not calling unless more than 90 days had passed, huh?
They cash your check when they open the envelope, and THEN the rest of the process starts.

Yup...they want to make sure your money is good before they start with any of the processing. Plus, I do believe that the sheet that you tear off the front (your tracking sheet - at least one came in my packet that I got) states that it can take them up to 90 days to process and you shouldn't call to start tracking for at least 6 weeks or more.

Then again, you know they probably don't want you tracking it at all and to just wait. If yours goes past the 90 day mark, then they probably don't mind you tracking it as there is probably an issue with it.

Also, FL might take the electronic fingerprints in state, but if you are applying from out of state you best make sure you get INK fingerprints done. Ya...old school. If you have electronic ones sent in, they will reject them. A few of our CCW classmates had that issue even after the instructor told us ahead of time to make sure they were in ink..nope, they tried the electronic ones anyway.

As for my blue & white card from FL, it already had their info stamped on it right out of their packet. So, mine shouldn't be returned for any reason like that because it came from them all ready to go. :) Then again, my luck they will find another reason to return the packet. LOL

Good luck to everyone! :)

update fla. ccw permit

First of all, you are dealing with the Florida Department of Agriculture and licensing. They are not a law enforcement agency. From my dealings with them, they have a habit of returning packets for omissions even though the required documents have been furnished by the applicant. The supervisor's name is on the letter sent to the applicant for ommisions but are really completed by their subordinates and the supervisor is not aware of the correspondance. Unfortuniately, the new Director has not exhibited a turn around for that department. The norm for a CCW waiting is 90 days. Also, their phone system is antiquated and they will tell you their problems such as budget crunches but they cash your check first thing when they open the envelope. I sympathize with the applicants that are at the mercy of that agency. Good luck on your application. If the time period is over 90 days, they have to approve the license or furnish you with why the application was rejected.

Okay, Foxtail, enlighten me.

You reside in Illinois...a "thou shalt NOT have a CCW" state.

What does a Florida CCW permit get you? You can carry in other states recognized by Florida??

Just trying to smarten myself up. Thanks

Last year I got my cert in a gunshop where they gave me the passport photo, filled out the application for me while I was being printed by a Sherrif's rep gave me a package that I dropped in the mail with a money order and had my cwp in less than 2 1/2 weeks

I travel to Florida every spring. It will also allow me to carry in Indiana, right next door.
We may ccw this year, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks. That is what I figured but wanted to know.

Good luck on getting Shall Issue in Illinois soon................:)

This is going to sound a little odd. I teach a couple of CCW classes each year and I have found that most students start taking out of state vactions when they get the CCW just so they can feel what it is to have a CCW.

I am beginning to think that may be elected officials want people to stay in state for vacations.

I sent mine in and my wife's in on the same date. They turned down the wife because she had not had an NRA instructor. I had to write a detailed letter explaining their own statue that said a "state" approved firearms instructor. I convinced them that Texas DPS instructors are "state" approved. Two weeks later they issed her CCW,. Mine 60 days, then 90 days, then 120 days and still no CCW. I call, wait 1hr on hold. Finally speak to someone who says, its being processed by the one person who processes Retired LEOs.....I tell them I sent it in 120 days ago... Well it will be a few more weeks they are backed up. I write to the Secretary of Agriculture and complain that the time is excessive, especially for a retired LEO who at one time held a FL CCW and forgot to renew it. A day later I get a call from the "Supervisor" at CCW permits who says, "You wrote my boss and the Secretary and we have gotten reprimanded for the delay." Your permit was issued today and mailed out but I doubt you will receive it before your trip to Florida begins. Well I was coming to Florida to qualify at the PD anyway and I have Texas so at least I was legal.......I just wanted the Florida Permit anyway.......especially since I retired from Florida. Bottom line is that they are a bureuacracy and as such nothining happens quickly...Your tax dollars hard at work...

I don't mean to bump this thread, but a question on Fl CCW..I am in Fl visiting my Mom 1 or 2 times a year. Is it possible to apply for non-resident CCW while in Fl and is it any faster?

yes you can apply while in Florida. Some cities have a separate locations for finger printing so you don't have to go to the police station. A phone call is the way to check.

No I doubt it will be processed any faster.
