UPS driver does me a solid

I ordered a new saw on black Friday. The current one gave up the ghost after a short 19 years. I can't complain.

The delivery date snuck up on me and I wasn't home. This isn't a cheap saw. When I saw the UPS delivery notification on my phone this afternoon, I wrapped things up, dropped off my help, and heading home. I'm working out of town so that took about 90 minutes.

I was pleasantly surprised to see how the UPS driver did his best to hide my delivery from porch pirates. He even propped a board up against it to block the view.

That's a conscientious worker. We could use more like him.

I should point out that this was an 89 pound box and not easy to move.

Time to trim the bushes, I know...any volunteers?

That is good service. My UPS man knows that I am home most of the time and should I not he doesn’t leave my stuff but brings it the next day.

In most places I have lived, I have usually had the same UPS driver for years. I always make it a point to tell them "Thank You", like my mama taught me, and during the summer I always ask & offer them a cold soft drink or water. I always order ammo in case lots and do so frequently and my UPS guy is great about "setting" those heavy boxes down on the porch and not just "dropping" them. I wish I could say the same thing about Fedex and Amazon, I rarely see the same driver twice for them.

We have an enclosed entrance to the house except on the street-side. It's pretty hard to see into it from the street but my wife made a 3' x 3' box open on the top with a sign inside that says "packages". Most of the time the delivery people use it. Of course there are exceptions - like the one delivery that was placed right in front of the door with the welcome mat standing in front of hit. Only thing missing to say a package was there was a neon sign!

Once upon a Time my truck was parked at my mother's house. I don't remember why but it was. I was driving my other truck. And the UPS guy was passing by her house and stopped, and brought the package up to the door and rang the bell, and asked if I lived there. She told him no, that I was her son, and he told her that this package was for me and she told him he can leave it with her because I would be there in the next day or two anyway.



It was her Christmas present. And they had not put it in an overbox, they had just put the UPS shipping label on the box.


He was trying to be helpful. And I did appreciate his thought. And mama got her Christmas present two weeks early.

Many years ago I got a great deal on cast lead bullets. I ordered 10,000 each of 38, 40, 45 bullets. When I came home from patrol one afternoon, all 30,000 of those bullets were stacked up neatly in a row in front of my garage door with a note taped to the top box, "Are you trying to kill me Craig" The next time I ran into him at the same restaurant I was taking my lunch break, I flagged the waitress over and paid for his lunch. Craig was a great UPS driver but he was an even greater guy.

With too much time on my hands I got a large Amazon box and filled it with used cat litter and left it on my front porch. It sat there for a week before I threw it away. Guess I live in a good neighbor with honest people passing by

I knew a guy who lived in Los Angeles for a while. He would box up his garbage in a cardboard box labeled electronics and leave it in the back of his truck. It would usually disappear in a couple of days.

If fact, this thread reminded me of something, it’s Christmas time and I want to get her something for Christmas. I figured a gift card for a local eatery, but I don’t know her preferred location. Any suggestions?

Visa gift card or cash in an envelope. Allows her to pick the place she spends it at. And what on, also.

My UPS driver retired this past year. His replacement couldn’t carry his lunchbox. Young guy who acts like it’s killing him to say hello. Not sure how he got the route. My last two guys referred to my neighborhood as a premium route that required a lot of seniority to get. My FedEx guy is pretty good too. A little goofy but a nice guy. I think he owns his route.

I can not remember ever seeing a UPS driver take a lunch or in any sit-down situation out side of his truck.

Ah, makes more sense.
Around here the UPS drivers seem like phantoms, you never really get to see them.
Even the commercial drivers come, unload/load their trucks and
then they are gone.

I think they have a bonus if they pickup and deliver more than their 'quota'.
I have heard they work their butts off, moving up the food chain in order to get into the delivery trucks.
