I hope you get the frequent flyer points that package is racking up.

I bought a briar pipe from a guy in Dayton a few years ago. The package went to San Jose, back to Dayton, to my actual town, back to San Jose, back to Dayton, and then finally arrived here. The ZIP code and address were legible, so I have no idea what was going on. It's one of life's mysteries, like what happens to the refrigerator light when you close the door, or why it is that my knees are older than the rest of me.

Been there.
Sold something to a guy in Utah weeks ago.
He sent check in a priority tracked evvelope.
Tracked it from Utah to Denver in one day.
Then it went off the radar for five days
Made it from Denver to Colorado Springs (60 mi) yesterday
I have no idea where it was for five days

Did you send it Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express? If you didn't send it Priority Mail Express, the USPS does not guarantee 3-day delivery for Priority Mail.

Were you under the mistaken impression that your package was going to fly directly from Scottsdale to whatever town in Louisiana you sent it to? That's not gonna happen.

It's always easy to blame the USPS, but the fact of the matter is that postal service personnel are not the only people who handle your mail, especially when it's flown from Point A to Point B to Point C and so on and so forth.

I won't waste my time or yours trying to explain all that can go wrong with a piece of mail. I'll just say it isn't always the fault of the USPS.

Besides, if you're unhappy with the service provided by the USPS, then next time use FedEx or UPS.

I sent a USPS money order by registered 3 day priority with tracking. I paid extra for all that.
After three days the letter had not been delivered. I checked tracking and it showed it left Houston main distribution center day after I mailed it. That was only tracking showing up on the letter. I got the Post Master to check on it and she had no luck finding out where it was. A week later the post office for the delivery area told he she had received it. She said the letter was so mangled it was a wonder it got there. Luckily the money order was still intact. The seller was working with me because he said he has had this problem a few times before with the USPS.

I asked shouldn't I get a refund on my 3 day delivery fee because it took a week for delivery. I was told by the Post Master they don't guarantee shipping times.

Something I found out because I was concerned what if the letter was never delivered. On the back of a USPS money order it says if the money order is lost or stolen then it could take 60 days before I "might" get a refund. So if the letter had not been delivered then I would have had to purchase another money order and send it for payment. A lot of people don't have an extra $400 sitting around to buy another money order. If a seller says they only deal with money orders for payment I say goodbye. I am not going through that again.

USPS tracking in my opinion is a joke at best.

ONE OF LIFE'S MYSTERIES.

I don't believe the tracking for a minute. Too many "undeliverables" for me, when I spoke to the people on the receiving end that said "the truck was just here, it's a small town & the drivers a buddy & had nothing". To be optimistic, Az - NOLA, at least they seem to be getting warmer. :)

The past 2 guns I have bought on GB were shipped to my FFL via usps. One package arrived at my FFL business after 8 o'clock at night, then was sent back to main office as undeliverable. Because it had my name yet thier address on it, it ended up taking my FFL 2 hours on the phone to get them to deliver it again to them. Then late last month my gun arrived at my FFL on a Sunday and of course they are closed on sundays. I do not know what is going on for them to be delivering mail at night and on sundays? The first gun the box was destroyed and the barrel was hanging outside of box. He waited to open it until I was there to witness it.

I sent it USPS Priority. And NO I didn't send it express but 10 days and still not delivered?? Please note: On Dec 4th they stated it was "out for delivery" which to me means it was on the delivery truck, Now on Dec 5th it's back at the New Orleans facility!! Go figure on this one!

Guess what? The USPS isn't going to leave a packaged firearm on someone's loading dock or laying outside their door, no matter what time of day delivery is attempted. Delivery of a firearm is supposed to require a signature.

Some mail is delivered on Sundays and "at night". Some FFL dealers do stay open until 8:00 or 9:00, especially the big box dealers.

Regarding damage to the package, I'll say this again: The USPS is not the only agency that will handle a Priority Mail package during shipment. Matter of fact, the USPS uses FedEx planes to transport Priority Mail, since the USPS has no fleet of planes. They also use commercial airlines. And the USPS isn't in the business of repairing damage done to a package by a third party, unless it's so bad the package can't be transported safely.

I won't even attempt to describe some of the treatment I've seen mail receive at the hands of airline and airport personnel. You think baggage handlers are tough on passengers' luggage? You ought to see the treatment given mail by tractor drivers and the people who load the mail into containers and onto planes. You should see it, cause you wouldn't believe me if I described it to you.

As I said earlier, it's easy to rant against the USPS because they're the most visible handler of your mail. They're the face the public sees.

Too bad you can't see behind the scenes.

There is most likely a mistake in the address label of some kind, or something marred address and it can't be read. Call the U.S. Postal Inspections, and tell them and be prepared to give them a final address of the FFL, it is being delivered too. Tell them what is in the package, and they will get back to you very promptly. Be prepared to be on hold up to 45minutes waiting to talk to an inspector. You can also get the inspector number through your local post office if you go to the post office in person. This is not set in concrete but might help point you in right direction. I've been through it. Mikey

USPS is not perfect. That said, I have sent and received a lot of priority mail and they are probably above 99% for me. I consider them acceptable and economical compared to the alternatives. When I was selling my .41spl brass from the first Star-Line run, priority flat rate boxes made it possible for me to ship fast and economically. It made it possible to recoup my initial sizable investment, while servicing my new found clientele.

Just for reference I had a gun recently shipped via Fed Ex Maine to Ohio. When it got to the FFL he was closed and item returned to Fed Ex depot. It was again delivered the next day after 8PM and he was closed. So the driver left it on his back steps to his shop and entered into his system as delivered. No signature. If I hadn't been tracking this myself carefully it would likely have been gone from his back steps the next morning. He is local to his shop and I called him and he went and retrieved it and put inside the shop. That was Fed Ex not USPS...

Yes, "Out for Delivery" means it's in the letter carrier's possession and he or she is out on the route to deliver it. Since I wasn't there, I don't have an answer. If a signature was required, the carrier wouldn't have left it if there was no one to sign for it. If it was too big for the mail receptacle, the carrier wouldn't have left it. If it's on a rural route and won't fit in the mailbox, the carrier (if he or she is a good carrier) isn't going to leave it on the ground at the end of the driveway.

As someone else mentions, the USPS isn't perfect. If you're all that incensed about it, why don't you ask the them why it's taken so long? You might even ask for a refund on your postage.

I've given different reasons (all of them are possible) as to why this might have happened, both in your case and in another member's case. Other than that, I can't help you. You want to keep complaining about it, be my guest.

As I suggested to you earlier, if you're dissatisfied with the USPS, use a different package service next time.

I recently ordered a water pump for my old tractor. Three days later
the package arrived in great shape. Total shipping cost usps was
$15.00.

I recently (last month) received a letter that had been mailed in 2016 and had a 2016 post mark. I was impressed. I wonder what piece of equipment they moved and found it under?
