Very satisfied new Taurus owner.

Second range trip with the Taurus PT92, and another 250rds ran flawlessly. This was my seventh Taurus semiautomatic acquisition in the past eleven months, and all of them have been remarkably reliable and a pleasure to shoot.

Wife just got a Generation 4,9mm for carry. Not a hiccup. I wanted something match but I got a "baby" Glock. At least the ammo is the same. We've had 3 Taurii (?). The 38 snubby sucked canal water. The Raging Bull was great (454)==traded it off when I sent a SBH to Reeder for conversion and her 9mm. Quality certainly seems to be improving.
 
Honestly Taurus revolvers aren't that bad. Especially the early years. Their semi's mehhh there are far better alternatives out there.
 
My experience as well-only with my 3 Taurus revolvers. It would be hard to get unbiased opinions on a S&W sight, who formerly owned Taurus. Very fond of my old production 441 (44 spl) my mod 44 (44 mag) and my mod 608 (8 shot 357) same large frame as the mod 44.
 
Today's range session with the new Taurus PT-911. This is one sweet pistol that's a real pleasure to shoot. This particular target was set at 30', standing two hand hold, rapid fire.

I'm surprised that there aren't more "Taurus Sucks" posts. Those are the norm. I have, and have had, several Taurus products. Most of them have been very good. They don't compare with high end guns, but that's because they aren't meant to. I love my Beretta 92, but I also like my PT92 a lot. There are better built, more refined firearms out there but that doesn't make a Taurus a piece of junk. I drive a Dodge, but I don't expect it to be a Caddy.
BTW: That pimped out 38 Super in the post above mine is awesome. :)
 
My only experience with Taurus was with a PT99 I owned in the late 1980s. It worked 100% as I recall and was combat accurate. I liked the safety better than the Beretta. There was nothing wrong with the PT99 but I eventually traded it on a 25-5. I recall I added maybe $50 for the 25-5. But no one wanted revolvers back then. Everyone wanted wondernines.

I believe most of the Taurus haters base their opinions on what they heard or read many many years ago.

I bought my first Taurus semi last June (PT-111 G2), and was impressed with it's accuracy, reliability, build quality and price point that it inspired my next Taurus purchase and subsequent purchases. I now have 8 new Taurus semiautomatics, all of them have hundreds of rounds fired through them and have been excellent trouble free pistols. I would not have continued purchasing the same brand if any one of them was sub par junk.

Many would say I have been extremely lucky to have so many newer Taurus semis that have performed flawlessly, but those are the same people that find it impossible to believe that maybe Taurus has upped their game.

I don't consider myself a Taurus hater... but I can say with absolute certainty that I will never own one. Poor as I am, they aren't for me. Time and experience tells me that I can do better. Why should one ever settle for something less than the best one can afford?

It's not a matter of "settle for something less than the best one can afford." It's more like getting the best at a substantial discount to the overpriced substandard big name brands.
 
I've tried several Taurus revolvers over the years. Some worked ok and some did not. If I felt more confidence in their QC & CS, I might buy one. A good friend has had a stainless 92 and a DAO stainless 85 since the early 90's and they have been good guns. I like the safety set-up and trigger on the Taurus PT-92 better than that on my Beretta 92FS. He gave me the Taurus 85 recently and I carry it occasionally. It has a set of Crimson Trace Lasergrips on it that I gave him years ago. He said the grips are worth more than the revolver so I should have it...Besides, he is a lefty and revolvers just are not his thing except for single actions or breaktops.
 
I couldn't help it, but the PT-911 was so sweet at the range that I just had to purchase another discontinued all metal Taurus semi before they sold out. This one is the classic all metal PT-909. It's the newer version of the 911 with the same slide assembly, but with a PT-92 lower frame. If you mated a Sig and a Beretta, you would have a PT909.

I took a stainless PT1911 in 38 Super in on a trade a few months agp. My idea was to flip it on something later. After taking it to the range and running a couple of boxes through it I was pleasantly surprised with its accuracy. I have since gotten some dies and am loading for it. Guess I'll keep it.

Not really. No other "overpriced" brand disassembled itself at the range as so many of their 911 have done. No other makes that I can remember recalled a 100,000 of their own guns from the Brazilian police due to going off by themselves. Yes they did. Hit a bump and the gun goes bang!

Have you ever seen a revolver for sale that wasn't finished being machined? Like taken off the line, boxed and shipped out? No? Here you go...

If you can miss that what else is wrong?

Anyone can give a lifetime warranty for garbage. I'd rather have it built right and forgo the warranty

Hundreds of rounds? In what time frame? Just as an example, my dad has a gun that about 20 years old but has probably seen all of one mag worth of ammo. Not a good indication of reliability. To buy into Taurus I'd like to see it go through a several thousand round test at a multi day course. Then I'd like to see them do it over and over again to make sure it wasn't a example of one. Until then I'm sure keltec or Jennings can do sever hundred rounds as well

911's disassembling themselves at the range. I researched every review on the 911 and never saw any such nonsense you're claiming on the 911. Are you thinking 1911's? S&W had their share of tens of thousands of M&P's being rejected by entire police departments. Several members on this forum had bought brand new S&W pistols that were missing parts.

None of the 98,000 recalled 24/7 semis were shipped to the US.

According to internationl reports, the Brazilian gun maker is being forced to recall nearly 100,000 of the 24/7 pistols which are currently in use by the Brazilian police.

The guns were made specifically for the police and it is not believed any of the other 24/7 line of pistols is affected. No Taurus USA guns are known to have the problem.

Back in late August Smith and Wesson issued a possible safety warning on their, popular line of Shield pistols, but stopped short of a recall.

Just a week later, Springfied issued an all out recall of their line of popular XDS pistols. The issue in question could be fixed by a quick trip to Springfield.

Some people driving Toyota's claimed that they were so reliable that the car would accelerate on its own without even pressing on the gas pedal.

There's a number of S&Ws I might take over a comparable Taurus.....but I'd take TCP a over a BG380 any day. Like a number of people, I got burned on the BG380.
 
I considered buying a Taurus a revolver several years back, but read somewhere that they recommended not dry-firing them, so I called Taurus customer service and they indeed told me that they did advise against dry firing since it could break the firing pin. That made me question their quality and pretty much made me decide against getting one. Also the fact that I know of no Police Departments or Militaries that issue Taurus firearms except maybe Brazil(their country of origin). You have to question why that is. I think they are fine for fun and range use, but no way would I ever choose to trust my life to one or recommend that anyone else do so.
 
There's colt and a number other revolvers, along with obviously rimfires that recommend against dry firing, it's not a quality issue. I know at least one person who has broken hammer mounted fp's with lots of dry firing. I like snap caps, personally.
