My son brought me a Victory revolver a lady has, her father had, he passed away. It has a worn mechanism (cylinder had end and side play when in the locked position, not much but some). She wants $100 for it, the serial is V693XXX, there is another digit or character, looks like an 8 before the V. Does it sound like new parts should fix it, is it worth $100? Thanks. I am a Korean "conflict" vet, so I can repair it if I buy it.

I just paid almost 3 times than that for one. It's neat piece of history, and is one of the few pieces still fairly affordable.
Jump on it.
BTW - Mines # V 6122xx.
Can anyone here provide an average d.o.b.?

The S stamped before the V serial number means that it incorporates the hammer block safety that was designed near the end of WWII.

Thanks one and all for your comments, now to try to find parts. Maybe S&W may have some I don't know if Model 10 parts will fit it or not, the yokes, for instance, have different part numbers. I will get it and risk it. Thanks again!

ham1,

The "8" that you see on the butt before the serial number may more likely be an Ordnance Dept. "flaming bomb" acceptance mark. They are frequently mis-struck and difficult to discern.

Since you don't mention the presence of any top strap markings, the odds are your gun is one those distrubuted by the D.S.C. to various police and civilian guard agencies. There may also be "P" proof mark(s) at the upper left frame, the underside of the barrel and the rear face of the cylinder.

FYI, I'd estimate your gun shipped from the S&W factory circa Oct., 1944.

Old Corp,

Your gun shipped the same year, probably in June.

Both shipping dates are approximate and would need a factory letter to pin it down with greater accuracy.

I invite both of you to post the full serial numbers and all markings in order to enter them in the database of Victory Models maintained by me and my friend ordnanceguy. (If you prefer, you may e-mail me off line at [email protected], removing the "NOSPAM," of course.)

Hi Guys, I e-mailed Jerry too, but if anyone has a clean Victory model side plate for a non-hammer-block model, I could sure use it! Please drop me a line if you can help. Trying to get a little Victory back in gear. God Bless, Marc
