Victory of the BAVARIA MUNICIPAL POLICE

A 2016 posting by a now-deceased member who was an expert on Victories discussed the "Bavaria Municipal Police" engraving in English. It is correct, but only for the State of Bavaria, which was under occupation by American forces. It was done because few Americans could read or understand German.

I was a member of the Carbine Club and we got them at $350.00 a piece and were allowed a one time buy of three carbines. I bought three of them. Pays to keep receipts, that was 2/20/2003.

My first purchase was my M1 Garand from the U.S. Army's Director of Civilian Marksmanship in 1993: $165. I had to wait a year to receive it via USPS. Boy, was I excited when I got a card from the Post Office asking me to come and get it. It was one per lifetime back, then.

Next was a U.S. Mossberg Model 44US WWII trainer from the CMP for $75. Heck of a shooter with the Redfield peepsight. They came with no magazines and their plastic (Bakelite?) grip strips were cracked, but Haviland carried magazines and machined aluminum grip grooves.

#3 was an H&R Model 12 US from the CMP for $300 from the CMP. Heck, the Palma sights alone were worth a couple hundred bucks!

#4 was my Kimber 82 Government Model. $300 from the CMP.

#5 was the M-1 War Baby, as mentioned above.

I'm now 70 and I would need a cherry picker to get me up from High Power sitting position; so, about a year ago, I traded the Garand for a nickeled S&W Model 58 LNIB. I sold the Mossberg and the H&R to good friends who wanted them for their grandkids. I sold them for reasonable prices to promote shooting sports among youngsters. I still have the Kimber, which I use in RFBR matches, and the Model 58 is probably my favorite handgun. I'm happy!

I have been buying from CMP since about 2000 or so. More Garands, carbines and .22 Lr rifles than I can count. Have only kept one after all of that, a Winchester Model 52D.

I did collect M1 Carbines for quite a while. I had all the manufacturers except Irwin Pederson. Only one left, my Uncle bought it in the mid 1960's for $20.00.

AJ, I see on your public profile that you were a Marine Corps Combat Pistol Instructor. Did you ever shoot in the NRA Bullseye Pistol National Mid-Winter Champioships in Tampa? I shot in '90 & '91 with the Lakeland Rifle & Pistol Club team. Thought we may have crossed paths 30+ years ago!

I was a Combat Pistol & Shotgun Instructor when I was stationed in Calif. By the time you are referring to, I was back on the east coast in my primary job as an aircraft electrician. Not much time to shoot then. If I had had the time and been in practice maybe would have tried my hand in it. I am from vero and could have come down from NC to visit family and gone over. Are you still there? Do you know Ken Hill from the Lakeland Club? I am in Sebastian now.

AJ, yes; I've been in Lakeland since 1969, and a member of LRPC since 1990. We have about 400 members; so, it's possible that I would recognize Mr. Hill if I saw him, but I don't believe I've ever met him.

You ought to come over to our next gun show in May, at a Sun n Fun hangar at the airport. We have them 3x/yr: January, April or May, and September.

Have never meant the man.

O.K., this is Bruce Dow. He has a shop in Dade City (Arms Room) and usually has a table in our shows. I believe he has the nicest M-1 carbine collection in Florida. If you come to our show and he's there, he's always glad to answer any question you may have. Hope to see you there!

In the Convention Center Ken had a table at the sign of "8th & I". He is a Jarhead like me and he deals mainly in M1911's (mostly C&R's).

It is about 2 1/2 hours each way to the show from here. Have only been once since the show moved to the airport. will talk with a couple of buddies to see if they want to go.
