Violence protest shuts down Chicago interstate...

It is appalling to me that the ISP District Chicago troopers did not make mass arrests, including that "police chief", who should be fired for his participation in this mass criminal event.

Ah .. the city gave the protesters permission to march .. So why would anyone be arrested for that??

If they broke laws yes .. but it appears they had permission to march !!!!

I believe that was tried in a march out east ..

That person is now in jail on murder charges ..

Are you advocating someone break the law ???

A. Not enough troopers. Even there were, it doesn't take much to ignite a protest into a full scale riot. That happened here in September of 2016. Roads blocked by rioters, police cars trashed and burned, at least one murder caught on camera, and who knows how many incidental acts of violence.

B. Where are you gonna incarcerate x-hundreds (thousands?) of people?

C. Even if possible, the city/county would have to call in every magistrate on the rolls, just to do an initial processing.

I know you're aware of all this.

Father FFH is pastor of St. Sabinas church on Chicago's South side. It's a beautiful old church. FFH is a real piece of work. He's convinced himself that he's a modern day Moses leading his people from the depths of poverty to the promised land. From '47 to '65 I lived in Chicago 3/4's of a mile from St. Sabinas. When I was in HS we went to dances in the Church school gym. Today there's no way you could walk from the Church to my old house day or night without a problem.
Every business both in my neighborhood and Chicago has a help wanted sign posted. The jobs are 80% entry level and there's no takers. The shootings in Chicago thus far this year account for $65,000,000 hospital costs. That doesn't include ambulance, rehab, and long term costs of a bullet wound. At that rate $330,000,000 will stack up by years end. That kind of money would go a long way to improve schools in neighborhoods where the kids are more interested in street cred achieved by illegal activities than an education. The Chicago Police Superintendent could be seen at the head of the crowd marching arms linked with FFH. it is against Chicago Department Rules and Regulations to participate in a political event in uniform. None of this surprises me. It is a pity what's happening in my country.

At what point does a protest become an insurrection?

Hrmph... the nasty-grams and points must be getting ready to fly off the table on this one.

It's unbelievable that the mayor and police chief would actually take part in this BS - but, this mayor is a total ahole. He's up for re-election and has alienated every voting block so he tries to appeal to whatever group he's in front of. And the police chief doesn't open his mouth until the mayor tells him what to say.

The ironic thing is , is that the very problem that these protestors are concerned about starts in their neighborhood. It's their kids that are the drive by shooters and they know who all the gang bangers are but they won't cooperate with law enforcement and turn them in. Most of them have been on government assistance so long that they expect the government to take care of this problem too. Why help yourself when somebody else will do it for you ?
Chicago could very well become the next Detroit.

IIRC, didn't St. Sabina's gain notoriety a few years back when other schools' athletic teams forfeited games rather than travel to that 'hood? Sounds like FFH needs to get his own house in order before casting stones at other peoples'.

I doubt the city has the authority to allow the closing of, and pedestrian presence on, an Interstate highway. They are almost always, if not always, under authority of some state agency, and IIRC, the feds have some pretty stringent rules about when and for what reasons those can be shut down.

I am sadly aware of the realities of mass arrests - but there were still good arguments for them, and no reason to charge those identifiable persons now that the road is clear.
