But there's light at the end of the tunnel, I hope.
A friend down south in Washington county said they just passed legislation making them a 2nd amendment sanctuary county.
He said surrounding counties are working on doing the same.
I just lit the fire under our reps. here in Goochland county to do the same.
Reading the proposed legislation coming from the future " rulers" in January, it's going to get ugly.
Even CCW training will be under attack as training with deadly weapons, which they propose to ban. They're going for broke.
If you enjoy your current firearms freedoms, you had better let your voice be heard loud and clear or we will lose them.

I've heard back from our rep and he said there's a meeting tomorrow night and should be a vote on it afterwords.
Me and my better half will be attending.
He said he got his FIRST letter in opposition just today, so that bodes well.
He also said that it's symbolic with no real weight of law to oppose state laws, but it will be very symbolic.
I agreed and said " So is the American flag".
He agreed.

He also said that it's symbolic with no real weight of law to oppose state laws, but it will be very symbolic.

Not here in Illinois, the cradle of the 2A sanctuary movement. County prosecutors saying publicly they won't prosecute, local police saying they won't arrest.

Hardly symbolic.

Getting consistent jury nullification is another avenue to fight patently unconstitutional laws. If Juries won't convict even with directed verdicts, what's the State gonna do?
Just another avenue for Pro 2A groups to pursue.

I totally agree about the county response. Notice he said that pertaining to STATE/ FED law.
But everyone should know that Politics are LOCAL!

Surrounding counties have joined the 2nd Amendment Sanctuary movement. Attending my county's Board of Supervisors mtg tommorrow. Supposed to be on agenda. Our General Assembly went Democratic in November and the session runs January-February. With Democratic Governor likely a lot of bills will be introduced.

Yes, there will be many introduced. Few that I will care for, especially concerning the 2nd amendment.

The only thing I'll add here for Virginia and wherever else it may apply, pay attention and get involved. It appears the locals here already were but I wasn't aware( involved).
I know it's a recurring PITA but that's the world we live in right now.
Know what your opponents are up to. They're not trying to hide it very much that I can see.
The battle seems to be on.

I have read some of the pre-filed bills, SB16, filed by Richard Saslaw, is most troubling, especially when it mentions that there may be a need for more prison space should this bill become law. Make no mistake, retaining any of our 2nd Amendment rights is going to be an uphill battle and may have to be settled in the courts. As for the 2nd Amendment sanctuary thing, it's purely symbolic and AG Mark Herring has been asked for a ruling. I'm sure he will find it unenforceable and localities will be required to enforce whatever bills the governor signs into law.

A Louisa County Supervisor has put in motion the process of Louisa County Virginia to become a 2nd Amendment sanctuary.
We all must get involved, it isn't just Virginia. It's coming to a theater near you!

Update:
The Louisa Board of Supervisors did pass a resolution at last night's meeting declaring Louisa County a 2nd Amendment sanctuary.

30 plus counties and counting. Spoke to one of our county supervisors yesterday and he said he'd never seen a turnout like it in our county. Our 2A resolution was passed last week. Please note that this effort was largely spearheaded by the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL). This group is our last defense to the rabid anti gunners in Richmond brought to you (or bought for you) by a certain wealthy individual that shall remain nameless so that this thread does not get shut down. Please support the VCDL and NRA. They are our last line of defense.

Update: The board voted unanimously to declare the county a 2nd amendment sanctuary county.
It was a very heavy turnout of citizens tonight.
Made me proud and eager for the coming fights.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. My state Delegate is newly elected Ghazala Hashmi, sporting a PhD in education, said in her victory statement was that she will "protect Virginians from Climate Change and gun violence.."
She must be pretty powerful to do all that. I'm going to call her up and ask that she escort me whenever I leave the house.
Dealing with her will be a waste of time, but there is a ray of sunshine locally here in Chesterfield County: 4 of 5 county supervisors are Republican, the Commonwealth's Attorney and Sheriff are both Republican, so we might yet be another resistant "sanctuary" county.

Roanoke County Board unanimously passed 2nd Amend. Sanctuary Resolution last night. Large turnout by citizens packed the chambers and hallway. 40 people spoke and only 9 against. Great to hear from a broad cross section of our community. Everyone was very civil and respectful. That's the way to do it. Morning paper said 1/3 of Va Counties on board with more on the way.

Great news VaTom. Had about the same experience here but with only one or two against.
I commented to my wife about how civil it all was for how many very opinionated people were there.
I said " What do you think this would look like if it was an Antifa meeting?"

Declaring a county (or city) to be a Second Amendment Sanctuary in any state isn't anything other than a feel good action. Residents don't vote on them. County officials (most of whom are elected) pass these "resolutions" and "ordinances" in an attempt to convince their gun-owning constituents that they're doing something positive for them instead of wasting the county's tax dollars.

County prosecutors saying they won't prosecute gun law violations? They're employees, hired by the district attorney. They can be fired for failing to do their job. And the district attorneys themselves can be fired by the Attorney General.

County sheriffs saying they won't enforce gun laws? They're elected to office and can be removed from office by a state's governor for refusing to fulfill their duties. Just ask Broward County, Florida ex-sheriff Scott Israel about how that works. Speaking of Virginia, it wouldn't surprise me at all for Ralph Northam to fire any sheriff who won't do his job. A sheriff's job is to enforce the law, and 2A sanctuary city/county resolutions are not laws.

As others have said, and as even county officials and their legal advisors admit, these sanctuary resolutions hold no force of law. They sound great as pro-2A publicity gimmicks, but they wouldn't even come close to holding up in a court of law.
