Waiting For The FFL To Ship! UPDATE

Those of you who have frequented this forum over the past few years know I've purchased a few firearms from members and sold quite a few more to other members. My shipping FFL has never taken more than two business days to ship a firearm unless there was a delay in getting the receiving FFL's paperwork. The FFL's who've shipped guns I purchased to my receiving dealer have also been speedy and reliable, until my latest purchase.

I'm purchasing a 4 inch S&W Model 63 for a surprise anniversary gift for the Mrs. I found the seller on Armslist and walked him through all the things he needed to do to ship a handgun while he waited for my funds to clear the bank. His shipping FFL received the gun Friday morning with all the correct papers to ship to my FFL. The seller emailed me copies of the transfer sheet and his receipt for paying them to ship the gun (a ridiculous $50 plus $20 shipping and $5 per $100 insurance!!). So far they(Take Aim Sports in FL) have not shipped my gun. The dealer also has not answered emails from me, the seller and the receiving FFL and did not return a call to my FFL.

I thought dealers wanted firearms they were shipping out of their premises as quickly as possible? The shipping dealer is fairly large- hence the high price charged. Now, if indeed they have shipped the gun, why won't they provide tracking?

My wife gets back from a visit with her sister late Friday night, and our anniversary is Monday (and we were married 11 years ago on a Monday). Hopefully I'll have the 63 to give her!

Well, the guy I bought the gun from called Take Aim Sports TAS emailed him, they are shipping the gun today.. The only thing TAS had to say was "We're sorry if our delay has inconvenienced you. Thank you for choosing Take Aim Sports."

I wish there was a technicolor yawn icon I could use!

Hopefully, they'll send it via 2 day air and you'll get it Friday. If they didn't already miss the pick up guy..... Good luck with it.

I ordered a gift for my wife for Mother's Day on Amazon. Item was in stock and had 2 day Prime shipping. Did this on Tuesday thinking it would get here by Thursday. Friday at the latest. It showed up yesterday. A little late for Mother's Day. They explained that the 2 day shipping is "from the time that it ships". WTH? It took them 3 to 4 days to ship an in-stock item. They did apologize and offer a $5 credit.

They shipped it standard "Two Day Priority", I can tell because 2 day air tracking begins with a two letter prefix like VJ, my tracking is all groups of numbers.
Plus, apparently this shop prints their own postage and gives the packages to a carrier because the tracking isn't working! Just says label created, pre-shipment. I really hate that and it is also a very common issue with ebay seller who use online postage.

Seems I can't win with these guys. If you live in Palm Harbor Florida, don't ask Take Aim Sports to ship your handgun!

Today, the story became much more "interesting". My FFL called me this morning and said there was no gun from Take Aim Sports in his mail. So, I checked the tracking again- nothing, still showing just a label origination on Wednesday morning. Next, I went to the local Post Office and had them investigate. The package was definitely not in the system.

I called Take Aim Sports and the guy sets the phone down while he "investigates". He came back and said they shipped it Monday( I heard another guy say "tell him it shipped on Monday". I reminded him that he emailed the seller saying they hadn't shipped it until Wednesday, after the seller called and asked why there was no tracking.

Then the Take Aim guy tried to say that his Postal Carrier often ignores the packages they ask him to take, which I find very suspect. So, the Take Aim guy says he will call the local Post Office and investigate. Almost immediately I get an email from Take Aim saying he submitted an online form at the USPS website to investigate. This was right around noon.

Lo and behold, at 2:30 PM the tracking is now working and the gun is just leaving the originating PO. Somehow, I think my package sat right where it had been when the gun shop printed the label until I called telling him I had the Post Office checking up on the situation. I really think I got screwed with because they don't like the guy who shipped the gun.

But "You pay your money and you take your chances" is the baseline norm when dealing with strangers.

The guy I bought the gun from had just moved to that area of Florida from the northern part of the state. He told me he's been in the shop a few times to look at guns, however he hadn't purchased anything. The gun shop employees may have labeled him as a tire kicker.

Anyhow, the owner of Take Aim did reply to the seller and give his best expatiation of why the package didn't go out until a week after they received it. Basically the employees didn't view shipping as a high priority and supposedly their mail carrier missed the package on more than one day. Oh well.

The gun is now at the destination PO, so once the package hit the USPS system, they met their two to three day Priority Mail timeline. So, I can actually give my wife her 11th anniversary gift, on our anniversary.
