Was at Wal Mart yesterday looking for range fodder. I saw that purchasing two 50 round boxes of Federal Champion .45 ammo was $2 cheaper than a 100 round box of WWB. I've never really noticed the Federal .45 before and have always purchased the WWB.

If I purchase 9MM or 40 S&W ammo from Wal Mart I always go for the Federal Champion over the WWB due to price. Anybody have experience, good or bad, with the Federal Champion .45?

Federal Champion 45 ACP from walmart works fine for me. I like the price also.

The federal shoots better in my kimber than the WWB. I agree about the primers though. Makes it a hassle to have to separate it from the other brass i pick up.

Federal all the way. I recently had to go with 40 caliber WWB for my 610 recently and it was a total mess after the last range outing. Took me nearly 2 hours to get it clean. Now I'll reserve the remainder of that WWB for my tupperware.

As for the small primer issue, a minor inconvenience relatively easy to deal with if you do the sorting when removing the ammo from the moon clips. Might be more of an issue for semi shooters but at this point I don't have a semi.

The Federal is my pick over WWB also. The M&P40 seems to like it better...and it is less dirty.

WWB gave me my only ammo problem in any handgun I've ever had. I prefer Federal.

In Oct 2011 I Bought My S&W Model 22.1917 and Bought Both WW and Federal My New Revolver was Having Problems with the Smaller Pistol Primer

What is intersting about that particular version of Federal Ammunition is that it isn't actually made by Federal or one of its sister companies. However they do stand behind the product so that really doesn't matter. I only know this because I got a squib in one of their boxes of 9mm. They replaced the two boxes I bought from Walmart (with their premium brand). They did a good job of taking care of me, their customer. Now since I reload, I don't have to buy very much ammo, but Federal is a company I like dealing with.

If your saying the red boxed Federal isn't actually Federal, only because they sent you something different. I'll respectfully disagree and tell you that they package and/or make the red boxed Federal stuff you see at Walmart exclusively for Walmart.

If your going off of something other then the replacement stuff they send you I'd be curious to know what you know.

The Quality Control guy at Federal told me that they (Federal) and ATK did not make the low price brand sold at Walmart. He also mentioned this particular ammo was only available at Walmart and was produced only for sale there. As it was a couple of years ago, I believe I know the name of the actual company that makes it, but I'm not 100% certain, so I'm not going to put possible incorrect information out there. Also that this happened a couple of years ago, means that Federal could have made the decision to start selling it in other stores now. The point is that Federal stands behind its name and is a good company to deal with.

I've inspected one of the boxes of Federal Champion ammunition I purchased at Wal-Mart. It has the "Federal Ammunition" logo on top of it. On the back of the box it lists the ammuniton as made in the USA by Federal Cartridge Co. in Anoka, MN.

MIST, I have bought Federal in 9's, .38's, and .45's. (9's were fine, .38's I thought I was shooting black powder! 45's were for my son, and he has never complained. My .38's could have been an off lot. Now I load clean 158 gr lswc w/Clays for under $6 a box. Bob

If buying cheap ammo from Walmart I stick with WWB. I have several ftf with the Federal stuff, not to mention it seems pretty dirty.

I have never had any issues with the Federal stuff myself. The last time I shot WWB I had one dud and several feed issues. The variance in OAL was disturbing to say the least.

I didn't know about the small primer but then I am not a reloader; I am only a brass unloader... That said, for range fodder I have not noticed a performance difference and I base my decision on the price - go federal.

Guys, F.Y.I. if you did not know this, you will know it now! Where I live there are 3 Walmarts close to my house or work. Many times their pricing structures are different. Example I bought a box of WWB .40 self defense for $19.99 at one store. The other I frequent was $22.99 for the exact item. .45's are cheaper at 1 particular store too. ETC.
So if you have time, and multiple Walmarts near you, compare and save! Bob

I really liked the Winchester white box ammo before they changed to the small primer brass. Seems like the Federal with the small primer is a bit more consistent in my guns.

Several other ammo brands have now switched to small primer brass for .45ACP. Fiocchi, CCI Blazer brass, and Aguila have joined Federal and Winchester. There are only two issues with the small primer brass. Separating it form the traditional large primer brass and issues with some priming tools while using the small ram through the large hole.
