I have bought from Walmart a few times lately. The nearest store is about eight miles from my house but I haven't been there for several years. Walmart is happy to let you shop on line and deliver quickly with free shipping.

Around here, the lines to self-checkout are as long or longer than the lines at the (few) assisted checkouts.
Walmart carries products other stores don't.
Pure cane sugars cheaper and then caned fish has stuff no other store has.

I begrudgingly wonder into Walmart once a year and only buy one item there, - yes, just one! They are the only store around our area that actually stocks and has a large supply of distilled water in gallon jugs. Yes, the other Supermarkets and stores list they have and even have a shelf for it but never seem to have any in stock! I buy about 15 gallons at a time which lasts me about a year.
I use it for my cigar humidor's humidification system which holds 2 gallons at a time and my wife uses it for the Bissel floor steamer and her iron. If regular water is used it will ruin the appliances as our water is hard and heavy with minerals.
Walmart kind of freaks me out a bit and so I walk in, get my distilled water and walk out. I dislike going there and sometimes I will just order it online and roll into the pick up area. The problem with that is they hardly ever get even that right! that place gives me the "willies". lol

The one close to me closed a few years ago.
I stopped shopping at Walmart some years ago, that well known radical left wing publication The Wall Street Journal cited them as an example of a company that liked to fire older workers to hire younger ones cheaper, I knew someone that happened to.

There's a Walmart less than two miles from home. I rarely go due to putting your car and life in danger due to the parking lot. Drivers don't look and park every which way...and pedestrians don't look and walk out without looking for traffic.

They opened one of their small footprint stores in my small hometown. Ran all the locally owned stores out of business. Then they closed the store and left. I can buy cheap chinese junk from Amazon and never leave home.

Was at our local Wally World the other day with she who must be obeyed. Noticed that the glass cabinet that usually hold rimfire and centerfire ammo was completely empty. The one that held shotgun ammo has some ammo still in it. Our firearm/hunting aisle has shrunken to about 3-4 feet of counter space. Phasing out??
I frequent all the stores, seems Walmartians do too. There’re Albertson Aliens, Kroeger Creeps, Safeway Slugs, all looking the part. I go wherever they have what I am looking for at a price I want to pay. I am with Rusty, it’s part social event.
P.S. My Walmart has never limited the amount of ammunition I can purchase.

Got no real beef with Wal Mart. I just don't like dealing with all the Walmartians. If you don't like it don't go. Same with Waffle House. I LIKE Waffle House but I understand people who don't. It ain't for everyone.
Although not my first choice for haute cuisine, Cracker Barrel gets the job done when needed. I go to the Super One in New Iberia. Hate it because of the check-out bottle neck, but I still go because it has good produce and good prices.
Looking at this thread from afar, I see a bunch of us old farts grousing about stuff old farts grouse about and that old farts in the future will be grousing about.
It's what makes the internet great!

I don't go there as often as I used to. I've switched my grocery shopping to Kroger. I have a Walmart+ membership and occasionally do a pickup / delivery / online order.
Yesterday my wife wanted to go so I picked up some groceries while I was there. If I go I use the scan-and-go where you scan your own groceries on your phone app and just scan a code at the register to checkout. Our urban Walmarts (Houston) have been enforcing the 15 item limit in the self-checkouts and the register lines are more limited. With the scan-and-go you can go through the self-checkouts or any register.
The Walmart I go to is not the closest. I had so many issues with the closest one I quit going. I'll drive right by it to go to the further one.

I wonder if Walmart will return to stocking handgun ammo?
My Wally world has a Sams club also.....and the gas is at least 15cent a gallon cheaper.
There are 2 walmarts within 30 miles. Both in the "big" cities. Make at least 3 trips a year to stock up on hard goods and other things that are 30% or more cheaper than local grocery. The only place that even carrys fresh beef liver anymore. Each store has multiple other business's that sprung up right next to them.
Some things about walmart are very annoying. Low prices on everything is not guaranteed and they have gotten kinda tricky about rising prices on some things.
Another Huge gripe is their chicken wings. They now look really huge with the huge increase in their prices. But it's illusory as they just don't trim most the inedible parts off anymore. And part of the walmart experience is stuffing my face with chicken wings in the parking lot after. Course am just doing this to "fit in".

If your low on self esteem, go to Walmart at 1:00AM! Our door greeter is so cross-eyed she can say "HI" and "Bye" to two people at the same time. However, I must admit I go to Walmart at least once a year, sometimes less. I like to patronize small mom & pop stores.
I needed a new foil and cutter for my Braun electric shaver. So I went online and checked the prices. Walmartianland beat Amazon, which I usually buy from, by $16, so it lured me in.
Put the head on the razor and fired it up. Sounded weird, very loud, not as usual. Touched my stubble and it immediately grabbed and pulled the hair. Ouch, never before experienced that.
Looked at it again, the product looked like the previous one bought through Amazon.
Packaging looked like the usual Braun.
I took it to the local Bizarro World, aka Walmartianland,for a refund. It must have been a knockoff of a Chinese knockoff.
Lesson learned.

Yep, here as well. Walmart does not pay me to do their employees job, we never do self-checkout . They're a multi-billion-dollar conglomerate and can afford to pay cashiers !
