I have bought from Walmart a few times lately. The nearest store is about eight miles from my house but I haven't been there for several years. Walmart is happy to let you shop on line and deliver quickly with free shipping.
Locally, they were restricting self checkout around Christmas. At the store closest us, all of the self checkout stations are now fully open. I prefer self checkout as it is faster, no waiting in line.
Remember when Walmart kept pushing everyone to self checkout and never had any full service lines open? Now it is turned around 180 degrees. When I went a couple days ago they had all the self checkout lines closed and plenty of checkers in full service. I guess they decided that since they needed 'chaperones' on every self check to stop pilferage, they might as well just use full service checkers again. It was kinda weird to talk to a checker again for the first time in years.
Around here, the lines to self-checkout are as long or longer than the lines at the (few) assisted checkouts.
