Walmart parking lot find.

Yours does fall into the serial number range and has the features of a New Model #3.

Compare yours to the one I owned:
Mine had an adjustable rear sight and yours seems to have two pins visible at the rear of the frame on the right side. It may just be a mark/ding, but mine only had one visible pin. Other than that and the barrel length, they're near identical.

Thanks, according to the book, there was a target sight option which yours appears to have. Was it 44 Russian?

If approached by a stranger in the WalMart parking lot to buy a gun, if you ALWAYS assume it is stolen, you will be RIGHT far more than you are WRONG! Guaranteed! Even if it does not yet, or even never does show up on a hot list.

He was not approached by a stranger in a parking lot. He was called by a pawn shop and given a heads up on them and the meeting was arranged While he was at Walmart. Only a complete moron would try to pawn a stolen gun. I would not worry about it being stolen. Far from the typical stolen guns. Guy was you typical plastic fantastic type who didn't have a clue. Just old junk he wanted to get some cash for. I would have bought em. Around here I have bought guns at yard sales, at a street fair, and the hey my buddy has an old gun he wants to sell. Why is it any different than buying a used lawn mower???? Those get stolen too.

serial # check

i have a close friend that is a police officer. i asked about checking a guns serial # for me to see if it was "HOT". he said sure no problem but if it does show to be hot i will have to take possession of it and then the investigation begins.

never mind! krs/kenny

Around here if a cop asked to look at my gun I have every right to just say NO. Unless, there is clear evidence of a crime he has no legal justification for such a search. Be like pulling up to me in the parking lot and asking to look in my car trunk. Good luck with that. It is called needing probable cause.

Just to add, It isn't because I don't like police or anything. But, my rights are my rights and mean something to me. Plus, I don't run a check everything I buy because some stuff is stolen. I am just not paranoid enough to think everything for sale is hot. Part of where I live maybe. I might have asked the guy for a bill of sale and made a note of his plate number though.

Wow! Absolutely a fantastic deal on BOTH for $241! Would love to see more pics on the Colt.

When I got out of Colt's several years ago, one was a 1903 .32 ACP that I recall paying $100 for back in 1992 or so.

Mine was a Type III, mfd in 1911 (1911 s/n started 107750, 1912 started 125000), with Type I grips (scalloped Colt banner), which was not unusal as Colt used inventory up. The magazine was 8 round Type I, correct with unmarked floor plate, and 2 tone mags didn't start until 1913. Early patent date on the left side is a collector extra so I've heard.

Fun little shooter, miserable sights, fairly accurate for short distances...good pocket gun in its day I bet.

I had it at the range one day back in 2017 and a guy just had to have it...he got it for $600 and both he and I were satisfied on the deal. I've heard they are worth more today, but haven't been watching them at all. Anyway you cut it on the OP's deal he got a great deal on either of the guns, and the other one was free!:D

No more parking lot deals around here....everything has to go through FFL...stinks all around.

Enjoy them both if you can...then triple your money if you wish.:D

I got a deal like that one time; a K38 for $87 that the dealer did not want to pay because the gun's finish was a bit marred.

If I had the OP's .44, I would be asking for somebody to "realign" it and replace the screw. I would keep it heavily oiled and occasionally massage it with a coarse cloth to get off the loose rust.

Then I would be thinking about getting a letter to see if it were originally 4 inches.

Yes, a letter may be in the works.

I actually decided to straighten the cylinder myself, I determined that the frame was fine, it was the cylinder shaft? that was slightly bent downwards, I could see the gap between the barrel and the cylinder was wider at the top, I clamped the barrel in my vice with soft wood blocks and found a perfect fit metal dowel and gently pried the shaft up towards the top strap, maybe 40 thousands? each time reinstalling the cylinder and checking the action.

Now it is smooth and the auto eject does not stick anymore.

Now trying to free up some screws to better access the hammer pivot? shaft? with the broken screw.

Good fun, I bet this could be fired with an appropriate load, the rifling is actually not bad.

Thanks
