Warning shots

The answer is no.

That said, in the long ago and far away, I was on a date with a pretty young thing when we were run off the road by a pickup truck. (In those days I was young and didn't understand the proper response to someone attempting such an act.) The rather large guys in the truck stopped, got out of their truck laughing, and headed our way. They made some rather rude and vulgar statements as they approached that scared my date. I (all 5 feet 5 inches and 120 lbs of me) stepped out of the car with my old J. Sauer & Sohn .357 Magnum single action and fired a "warning shot" between them that took the right hand mirror off their truck. With many more vulgarities, they ran back to their truck and disappeared down the road putting a ton of dust in the air. I managed to get the 1956 Oldsmobile out of the ditch, and we headed in the opposite direction at an equally high rate of speed. Nothing more came of the incident except that the young lady in question never went out with me again.

My dad asked about the dirt and grass I was pulling out of the undercarriage of the Olds, and I told him most of what happened. He explained that the Olds was as heavy as any pickup truck and proceeded to take me to a friend's salvage yard to practice what he called "defensive driving."

That was the only "warning shot" I ever fired, and it could have cost me dearly.

No way
Here in CO,we have the Make My Day Law which means I can shoot to kill a burglar or home invader and be free of prosecution and civil liabilities.Same thing if I was at the ATM withdrawing some cash and some fool pulls a knife on me trys to rob me.Hell no he aint getting a warning shot. And yes,we were taught at my concealed carry class YOU are responsible for every shot that comes out of your weapon. If that shot strikes an innocent person, you can't take that back.Even if you are lucky not to hit anyone, you could be charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, menacing, whatever the prosecutor tries to dig up.
