I often times watch gb auctions out of curiosity, and other times of course when I wish to acquire the item. This one, because I was busy acquiring another classic S&W (will post later), I kind of forgot about it. My understanding of the scarcity of -1 guns tells me this was a good price and I think I would have paid more, had I not forgot about the auction - at least $550 probably. What say you? How much of a premium for this one? I can't say I ever saw a 19-1 before. The condition wasn't mint, but I liked it - clean enough for me.

The gun is a 4 screw, btw.

CLARIFICATION - No, I didn't get this revolver. I'm just curious to the scarcity of it. It really excited me when I found it but alas, it was not meant to be...

Hopefully someone here got it, seems like a nice piece, IMO.

That is about what I paid for my 19-3 in a similar condition so maybe I paid too much. Even at the gun show I went to this weekend you just don't see 19's or 66's much for sale. There seems to be something about combat magnums that makes people hold onto them. I don't even see late model 66's with the hole in the side for sale. Ever. The few I have seen were used and abused. So I would say you got a good deal as long as it gets to you in the condition shown. I'm too much of a weenie to buy from GB since I just don't trust people that much.

I'm certainly no authority on 19's, but that looked like a nice one for the money. At $550, it still would have been a decent deal, in my opinion. Nice grips on it. The seller stated it had target hammer and trigger. Looks like standard hammer and trigger to me. It could use a bit of cleaning in the hard to reach crevices, and the photos weren't the best...maybe that is why it didn't go higher.

IMHO, the gun sold for three hundred dollars. The rest was for the stocks.

Of course shipping and dealer fees on the back end puts the deal at around 550.
Not bad if you were looking for one you could shoot and not worry about hurting the value.

As bigmoose said, it probably would have cleaned up better than the picture shows.

Model 19-1s are pretty scarce and the price paid was more than fair. Model 19-1s were shipped mainly in 1962 and were replaced late in that year or early in 1963 by the 19-2.
