As the trainers say, avoid stupid people doing stupid things at stupid times in stupid places. Man, has my 20+ years in criminal law shown that to be true. Be home with your door locked after 9 p.m., and you're almost guaranteed to die of old age.
Very glad you are okay and that you're on the happy path to a distant-future death of old age, surrounded by your loved ones after a full, rich and rewarding life.

Honestly? A couple bottles of water? Wow. She must be some "friend". That said, I would recommend a visit to a souvenir-shop that deals in baseball items. I carry a mini-bat, it is a replica of a Louisville Slugger in miniature. It is not hard to store in the vehicle and it beats having nothing in a no-carry state. But, that is why I will never live in a no-carry state.

First, if it had to happen, at least they found the cancer before it became inoperable (it is usually found after it is too late). Second, I agree that you were set up - start looking for a different category of female friend. Third, if you can't carry a gun (very difficult in California), and even if you can, I strongly recommend keeping a dry chemical fire extinguisher mounted close at hand in the car with a quick-release mount - they work well as a solid weapon (held in two hands, one thrust to the gut and your oponent is out of comission) and as a "super pepper spray" - a blast in the face and your oponent can no longer breathe. I have used them a couple of times in the past against multiple attackers, and prevailed each time. Very effective, and you can't be faulted for keeping safety equipment within close reach in your car. Best wishes on a speedy recovery from your wounds, and best of luck regarding the cancer.

Update. Attacker is being charged with Attempted Murder, $1,000,000.00 bond. Has second pre prelim? hearing tomorrow.
When I teach classes I tell me students errors are mistakes you make more than once. All else are learning opportunities. (Plan on this being one hell of a learning oppurtunity)
Today had the staples removed from shoulder and belly wound. Shoulder healing good, belly is getting there but still has a way to go.looks worse then it is. (photos available) Hope to hear by wed about schedule for surgery. Spending my free time reflecting and reevaluating who and what are important in my life. Living for my 4 kids number 1. All else distant second.
