Washington D.C. to allow guns soon?

I don't mean to be rude, but I feel that it is necessary to point out one mistake. DC residents are not going to "get their gun rights". The right to keep and bear arms was commonly understood to exist prior to the US Constitution's adoption, and the constitution merely affirms that pre-existing right.

In this case, residents of Washington, DC can more properly be said to have had an unconstitutional usurpation of governmental power removed. They had their Second Amendment rights all along, but DC government illegally deprived them of those rights.

What is happening is a good thing. But our government cannot confer rights on citizens; in fact, the proper role of government is to safeguard the rights of citizens. DC's government ignored its proper role for decades, and is now dragging its feet in correcting mistakes made for many years, while also placing as many obstacles as possible in the path of citizens trying to exercise their rights.

It is not yet time for celebration. The fight is not over, and will not be over until such time as we have elected and appointed officials at all levels of government that accept the the US Constitution as a firm boundary on their exercise of power, enacting and enforcing only such laws as are necessary to safeguard the citizens' lawful exercise of their rights as free people.

That will take a lot more time and effort to achieve.

Best regards.

D.C. residents, post Heller, have the right to keep a gun in the house - but, if I am not mistaken, it must be unloaded and locked. There's no intent to issue CCW's in the District.
