I have a wasp problem. They have found a way into the boxing of my house under the overhang, behind the gutters. I can see them entering and exiting at 2 points. Both are very small cracks. I have sprayed an entire can of wasp killer at the cracks. I killed some, but still see many more. I even Wyatt Earped a few....knocking them out of the air with the spray as they were attacking me.:D

Being allergic to their stings, I really can't get "close" and spray the daylights out of them. I also have no idea how many I am dealing with. Maybe tens, maybe hundreds.

Any suggestions?

Went to light my Weber gas grill Monday after work (hadn't used it in about 2wks) and when I lifted the lid , I found that a whole boatload of yellow jackets took up residence and were upset at my intrusion. They swarmed around my head and 3 stung me around my right eye. Swelled shut overnite. Waited for the darkness and chill of nightfall , turned on the gas and hit the button with the lid down. Foolish move , perhaps , but luckily it lit right off.

I'm also allergic to their stings so I am always on the lookout for them nesting around my house.
I would go up their nest when they are home for the night, (at the end of the day just before dark), and spray more into their nest. Use the foaming kind of spray. It will block their exit while your flooding it.
If a couple of applications don't do it, I would talk to a exterminator.

Pyrethrin powder through a chemical powder duster at night.

Whew! Thought this was a Catholic vs. Protestant thread for a moment!

I had that problem too...like 1morethan8 said, caulk the seams after it cools down and they are lethargic.

Wow, surprised to see how many are allergic to their stings. I go into shock when I get nailed by one of the little boogers.

Dish detergent mixed with warm water. Mix it up and throw it at the whole next. Something about it inhibits their ability to breath. Works great, costs pennies, no nasty chemicals to worry over.

I went through six cans of the wasp spray last year. We also called an exterminator to get the high, hard-to-reach peaks of the house where they like to nest.

This year, I'm on my fourth can of spray. I find the lousy little creatures all over the place...in the eaves of the henhouse, under the eaves of the mule barn, inside the stock trailer, under the rack where I put my skiff when I'm not using it, behind the shutters of the house.

I have absolutely no use for the little creeps. I'm sure, in God's wisdom, He created them for some purpose...then forgot to tell us why.

We had a hornet's nest outside our bldg on Camp Pendleton. One of our Marines returning from lunch thought it would be funny to hit it with a rock. We spent the next 3 hrs trapped in the bldg until Public Works came out to handle the problem.

I am allergic to wasp stings, too. I have to carry an injector with me in case of a sting.

We have a lot of them around the house, but I have found the solution to spraying them without getting stung.

My wife! Hey, come on, now. I'm allergic and she's not. Seems only fair that she goes out to do battle with the little varmints. ;)

I do watch her back, though, from safely inside the house.

I hate them. I kill all I can. I had an allergic reaction a few years back, leg swelled up. Have gotten stung a couple of times since, but they were light glancing stings that just caused a welt.

Some of them eat spiders, other than that I don't know what purpose they fulfill.

I too have a problem when being stung by a wasp, yellow jacket, honey bee or etc. They are no laughing matter. The older we get we lose our ability to ward off the sting. I keep benadryl handy.

When my father in law passed in 2008, we had been down to his house close to Wichita Falls, Texas and he had a bad honey bee problem and the hives (nest) were in between the walls. I called a bee keeper and he came and determined he could not get to the queen bee because of the area in which they were. After collecting all he could he sprayed what he could and it was a mixture of dish soap fixed up in a sprayer. Never saw a guy hate to kill the bees like he did. He killed a blue million of them but believe me he didn't get them all.

What is the wasp's place in the eco system? Do they serve a useful purpose or is their mission just to sting humans.

Scavengers, meat eaters, and they kill and eat other insects too. For the most part they don't bother me, but if they become annoying I'll wipe them out with chemical weapons.....

get two cans of the 20ft wasp spray, swig a beer, grap a can in each hand and go clint eastwood on em with both cans blazing, when their empty....run.

Take a picture before you spray (that's what I did) :D

If you hold a can of compressed air upside down, and then carefully spray, you can freeze them. :D Make sure you squash them because that will not kill the little buggers. This really won't help your situation any, but it is fun to do!
