Dayem! When it snows down here,I hook the wife's blowdryer to an extension cord and clear the walk and the drive in about 15 minutes.

I guess! Are you OK? I don't know South MS well enough to know how close you might have been to the Hattiesburg tornado.

Todays society is full of wimps! Today it appears that everyone shops daily for groceries and does not stock up on basics. I am nearly 81 years old and was brought up on a Maine farm. We had these type of snow storms several times each winter and there were a few times that were were not plowed out for over a week. Not a problem as mother had every thing needed to get along well for the rest of the winter. I can remember snow drifts so high and hard the town had them bulldozed as the huge v-plows were unable to break through. In those days there were snow fences to try and stop the drifting, but it still drifted. We are now a society of wusses!

In Maine where you are located I would sort of expect 31" of snow to be a HO-HUM event, but here in NY it's a MAJOR event! While we do get snow yearly, have equipment and crews to plow, we truly are just NOT equipped for this much. I read in today's paper this was the most snow (set record) in a single storm on Long Island. This was the first time in my 59 years that I ever remember the high ways being shut down due to snow. just saying.......

Parts of Long Island like the South Shore (a half hour away) only got 8 or 9 inches. On the North Shore we got clobbered! 31" measured!
STILL NO SNOW PLOW DOWN OUR STREET - NOT HAPPY!!

I am officially done shoveling and plowing and I am beat to ****!!!

After 2 days my little muscles are aching.

Raining in Boston today, the 6 foot piles will shrink down to 5' 11" Glad this one is over.

I guess 6 to 8 will be considered a light dusting for the rest of the winter.

And the story I related above was a different time when not everybody had to drive to work. Our road was mostly farms and except for getting the milk to the local pickup point no one had to travel. We hauled the milk to that point every other day with horses and they walked on top of the snowdrifts pulling the sled.
As I recall the town snow plow was one truck, a Walters Snowfighter 4-wheel drive with a huge v plow and double wings. When it could not move the drifts it was serious business. When I got older I got to drive that old truck and it was a monster. Wish I had a picture of it!

Yeah, got about 30+" where I am in Maine as well. Fortunately, my father has a John Deere Skid Steer with 8' plow. Really does a great job of setting the banks back. The amazing thing about the storm is that on Thursday most of my lawn had absolutely no snow on it. Now I have 8 foot high snow banks in spots.
