We have been waiting {and hiding out at home for the most part} for almost a year. My bride has serious underlying health issues from a rare hereditary blood disorder that renders her lungs extremely vulnerable to Covid - 19. She is 70 and I am 69 so when the local authorities moved down a grouping to the 65 - 75 age group along with those with underlying issues I went on line seeking our shots.

The local paper, which comes out twice a week, gave a contact portal for our group and after about ten minutes on line we both had confirmed appointments for the next morning at 0845. We had to drive down to the county seat in Globe Arizona {Gila County} and arrived at 0815 after a very scenic hour and half drive.

We sat in my truck for one hour moving up and ultimately getting our shots while still buckled in. The National Guard was performing most of the duties including the actual shots from an Army {NG} medic along with traffic
control. The whole operation was very well organized and professionally done.

We received the Moderna Vaccine and will return in 28 days for the second dose. While I am in excellent health and never had any serious concerns about my ability to survive a bout of Covid I was absolutely terrified that if I got it, it would get passed to my bride which would be a virtual a death sentence.

We will continue to socially distance, wearing our masks whenever appropriate and using copious amounts of hand sanitizer but I really feel like we have turned the corner. My left arm is seriously sore and like many I am experiencing mild flu like systems, I felt like I'd been hit by a truck last night but am significantly better this morning and my bride is having no issues whatsoever.

Our daughter, a nursing assistant at a homeless shelter in San Diego, survived Covid-19 last spring and we lost a dear family friend a couple of months ago so this has been very personal for us. We have a lot of friends who are still waiting their turn as they are younger and my best advice is to get the vaccine, any vaccine, at your earliest opportunity. Good luck!

The availability of the vaccine is different in each state. Virginia is doing a terrible job and 65+ people and those with auto-immune problems are for the most part still waiting on lists to be called and yet some others have managed to get theirs out of sequence with the guidelines set. Very frustrating.

I'm 75 to I got a email from the town, I go for mine on 3/14, I will 76 by then.

I got my Moderna shot yesterday. Walking in (Harris Health) there was someone every 15 feet or so to either get or give info. I spent about 15 minutes including my shot and another 15 minutes for the mandatory wait afterwards to check for possible side effects. I never had to wait in a line, it was all a steady forward progression.

Very impressed with the format and execution of this large scale undertaking.:)

Capt. Steve please review with your wife's physician and/or have a plan in place if your wife develops breathing problems after the second Moderna vaccine. Around here that seems to be the most common severe 2nd vaccine problem. Immediate action and prior preparation can minimize this . As you are already aware of her lung disorder I am sure you are already but a reminder may help.

Just got notified my 2nd shot is on schedule for Tuesday. Kinda was worried all those Boomers would get in ahead of me. Only a War Child.

My second shot is this Fri. May need a dog sled to get there but there I will be. Will still wear a mask and avoid crowds but will have a easier mind about the whole thing. Plan on going back to church on Feb 28 after almost a year only watching it on line. Stay well everyone.

Direct opposite to the OP. I'm the older, with high risk. I've had one shot of Pfizer. Also well organized but Gov. Inslee has done a horrible job so far. Had high hopes but he's an idiot!

Wife is eligible this week.

I'm in central Virginia, age 74, and am told it could be another 2 to 4 months. I guess some areas are doing better than others,

Augusta Health in Virginia has their act together. They do over 1,000 per day. Register in advance (oldest first) and you get a date and time. Since everyone knows their time there is no parking problem. They converted a gym into a facility with numerous nurses stations. After the injection you wait in a waiting room for 15 minutes for any reactions. Now my wife and I have both shots and could not be more pleased with their set up. The government should observe and take notes!!!!

I took my friend ago get his first shot yesterday. He's 76 and can't drive so I drove him and stayed with him through the process.

My impression is that Mass. has completely dropped the ball.

I won't go into all of the details but we only found out by accident that we could go right in and didn't have to stand outside in the below 30 degree weather for an hour.

No one seemed to have a firm grasp on what the procedures were supposed to be.

He got his vaccination one hour after the time of his appointment.

Oh, the second appointment is supposed to be done on a smartphone. I wonder how that's going to work out?

Did you get your shot also, I heard if you gave someone a ride, you got your shot also, no mater what your age.

No. I was a last minute substitution because his wife was in the hospital and couldn't take him.

OTOH, I'm not in any rush to get the vaccine.

I was very happy to receive my first dose today at a local hospital! There was a fairly long line and some grumbling about the wait. I opined that I have waited a longer time to get a table at a restaurant or through security at an airport, neither of which were potentially life saving. I don't recall participating in a mass vaccination program during a pandemic before in my lifetime so new territory is being charted, I am quite willing to allow for a bit of inconvenience. I thought all the staff were doing their best and I certainly appreciate their efforts. Looking forward to my next dose.

I'm in rural GA. Got my first Phizer shot last week through the Health Dept.
I was apprehensive about how well that would work.

I was amazed. Walked in at exactly my appointment time, checked in, filled out a full page form, got processed and sent to a shooter who asked several questions and then shot me, and had my shot record with my second appointment about twelve minutes after walking in.
They really had it set up efficiently!
