We never have enough guns

I've got it bad. Three days ago I picked up this HK940 30-06 with two magazines. Pretty neat piece appearing little used. I'll scope it tomorrow and dial it in next week. It will be hog hunting in March.

I've started saying "No" to good deals. My most recent purchase was a Remington double derringer this spring. I intend to shoot it twice, clean it and put it back in the safe. It's just that time in my life when I'd rather enjoy the guns and gear I already have than hunt something new.

Some years ago while, sipping whiskey and smoking cigars, as we sat around a hunting camp fire the discussion came up of what was needed in a basic firearms battery.

As I recall we figured at the minimum you would need at least 26 guns. You need a deer rifle, a varmint rifle, a dangerous game rifle, a duck gun, a small bore side by side for upland game, a hard hitting long barrel 12 gauge for late season pheasant, 4 skeet guns one each 12,20,28 and .410, a turkey gun, a small bore target pistol, everyday carry gun, a hideout gun, a home defense gun, an AR for home protection, a hiking in bear country gun, a small gun to toss in your pocket when walking the dog, a .22 rifle for rabbit hunting, a bench gun, a youth size big game rifle for the kids and grand kids, a .22 pistol for plinking, etc. you might need back ups for a number of them.

You get the drift.

1) We admitted we were powerless over firearms & our gun safes have become unmanageable.

( I'm out of room & thinking of buying another)

I'm shocked to say that after a bit over 30 years in the game, I have prime specimens of every firearm I've always wanted, which was my objective from day 1. (Wonder if that means I'm close to the end. Haha) I never thought I'd ever reach that point but yeah, I'm totally satisfied.

I think Henry Royce is generally credited with the expression, "If you're satisfied, you're fired!" - isn't he? I wonder what he might have thought about being totally satisfied? :D Hope you're not close to the end. ;)

In my own case, I'm still interested enough in "new developments" that now and then I fall off the wagon and buy something, even though I haven't the slightest need of it, and probably already have several guns that serve the same purpose quite adequately. My latest rifle purchase is something that just a year ago I never thought I'd want or buy, and have no Earthly need of it, yet today it's standing in the corner and I enjoy it.

I getcha on that point.

I held off forever buying a P365 and I laugh at myself for being so crotchety.
"Nothing new under the sun", I told myself.
Same with the AR pistol concept.
Closest I've gotten to any new acquisition in the past year (other than the 2" 686 that belonged to a deceased brother-in-arms) has been the thought to possibly buy duplicates of my "working" guns in subscription to the, "2 is one, one is none" principle.
Hypocritically: come to think of it, if I were to happen upon a couple of riot-configured Ithaca 37's at realistic prices, I'd hurt my wrist yanking out my wallet so fast.

I talk too much, methinx.

I got a smoking, Black Friday deal on a nice scope I did not need. It just sits in it's box...very sad.

So, now I am shopping for a rifle to pair it up with. I need another rifle like a hole in the head, but....you know!

Reminds me of the line in the old cartoon where Daffy Duck was a door-to-door salesman…

"HEY BUB!!! YOU NEED A HOUSE TO GO WITH THIS DOORKNOB!!!"

I've been there so many times.
