We should have a 581,681,586 & 686 photo thread.

I have to get the camera out and pose my L Frames for some new beauty shots! The 586's are among the best looking handguns ever, followed closely by the 686. I'm so screwy I have a 586 and two 686's in the same barrel length, though they do have different sight set-ups.

Keep posting while I get my photos taken!!

My contribution

Traded into this "non M" 686 no dash this past Saturday at a gun show at Wilmington Ohio. The hammer and trigger have been jeweled as well as a butter smooth trigger job.
I suspect that the grips are aftermarket and they certainly feel good in my hand as they have a palm swell similar to that of a set of cokes.
Serial # is AUE 13xx and if I am reading the SCSW correctly it appears the gun was produced in 86 or 87 someone more versed in the numbers will hopefully shed some light for me as that time period the numbers were somewhat confusing. I would suspect this gun has been fired very little as there are no indicators of such.

Smith & Wesson PC Lew Horton Plus Profile Barrel LHW0001

Here are a few additional contributions to this thread.

I have several of the 686 & 681's that are already listed. Here are a few that are not...

I had been looking for years to locate a 686 LH Plus Profile Barrel. Basically gave up... and then found this!

LHW0001

Here is another one...

Can't seem to find out very much info on this (how many made, serial number range, etc.)

S&W 686 Competitor PCC0203 Product Code 104233 Which is designated for the "Running with the Wolves" Revolver. Too few made so this one never received its own product code (not the first time) Prototype/factory test Gun for the "Hunter Series"? It is from the Performance Center in 1991

This is similar to the Competitor posted up by Smithnut, however, it is not from product code 170015

There are only 2 notches for a weaver mount and there are only 2 under lug barrel weights. One Nylon and one steel. Both are about the diameter of a Nickle or larger.

Does anyone here know more about this square butt Competitor????

and why not throw in my 686-3 Lew Horton Hunter in case someone has not seen it.

While I've had a number of L Frames, this is my one and only at the moment.

The L frame snub nose still eludes my safe, however the modern Smith revolver is well represented and loved! 686-1M with the long 8 3/8ths inch tube and my 4 inch 686 no dash, no M.

686-3 with Burris 2-7X Scope and my recently purchased 686-4 with PC four position front sight. This revolver had no back sight, so I replaced it with an LPA match style sight.

My first and still favorite L frame- 686-4 six inch. Came with ugly cheap rubber which I upgraded!
