Here is my 586, used to win my NRA Police Distinguished badge. It is a first year issue with AAA series serial number. A glass smooth double action and the high front post, which allows a neck hold on the B27 target at the 50 yard position.

No dash 686 wearing Grashorn stags/t-grip. I inherited it from my dad, he bought it new in July '81, he had action work and bead blast done to it. I've got everything it came with including his original receipt. Taught both my sons to shoot a handgun with this.

Very nice!
I wish S&W would bring back the 681 or 619 with a pinned front sight. They hardly make any full sized fixed sighted wheelguns, unless they are PC models.
