The only 27-2's I've ever seen with a RR FS were 6.5" S - Prefix guns. Why are they all partridge? Was RR FS not an option from the factory after a certain date, or was partridge just more common personal preference?

I can't recall ever seeing a 6" 27-2 with a ramp front, but they undoubtedly exist, probably as a special order item. On the other hand, I've never seen a 3.5" 27-2 with a Patridge front, but one is out there somewhere too.

First 27 I bought was a 6" blued gun that I ordered with a gold bead front sight and std black rear adjustable. I also spec'd NO pres case. That was possibly late 1971 or early 1972. I recall there were several sight options at the time.

Back then I had to wait for the senseless NJ Pistol Purchase Permit and the usual wait was 2-4 months. No rhyme or reason to the time period.

I recall waiting about 5 months yet the gun had come in from Smith in less than a month.

The gold bead was cool....REALLY wish I'd not traded it off years later.

Long way of saying there are probably all sorts of frt sight options out there.

Actually, no gun has ever been made with a Partridge sight.

I have seen a number of 6.5" 357s and 27s with the ramp but I don't recall ever seeing a 6" example with a ramp. I'm sure that somebody special ordered one at some point but I don't think they were commonly available.

I saw a 6" red ramp, target trigger and hammer a couple of months ago. It was special ordered and he had a letter, if I recall as seller admitted it was a special order. It was a model 27, 4 screw. It was in excellent condition.

That's because they won't sit still.

Partridge (ruffed grouse... top right)

Patridge ( front sight...the designers last name)
This one has a red insert

My 27-2 6" like every one I remember seeing had a had a patridge . In 1979 or so I sent it to Smith & Wesson and had them install RR and WO . A few years later it was stolen from a friend who felt he needed some protection . He also felt the need to leave the weapon in his house while he was out and it was stolen . If you see a 27-2, 6", RR WO it is mine , you can return it now , no questions asked .

Thank you for clariying the obvious typo.

The S&W "All Model Circulars" of the 50's and 60's all state that the "357" is available with any Target sight......

Most ".357" Magnums and later the Model 27 with a 6-inch barrel or longer were shipped with a Patridge front sight blade even though this model was cataloged as being available with any front sight. I have owned several that lettered with a red ramp and several that lettered with a red post front sight. These guns dated to 1953-1954.

I'm guessing that It's now being used to protect a meth lab in Los Angeles.

I have a 25-2 that shipped with a RR/WO. I have only seen one other, though obviously there are at least a few more out there somewhere. All manner of options were apparently available on special order.

I had a RR added when my 27-3 was back at Springfield for some work. I bought this cheap a long time ago to use as my range 27, but it's so nice (and valuable) that it doesn't get a lot of use now. (Still no -2 though!) I've never seen a 27 with what I thought was a factory RR.
