I just ordered an M&P Pro 5". My question is do they prefer to be run wet or dry? I use Bircheood Casey CLP as my preferred lube.

less is more, there are 5 specific spots to put a TINY drop of oil on, i use clp or hoppe lube, whatever i pick up at the time.

Five points of lube as shown in the owner's manual. Some shooters feel that a pinpoint of grease on the slide rails is an improvement because it doesn't fling off, but it also thickens in cold weather. Your choice.

I use just a dab of Magnalube grease on the slide rails and never had a problem. A buddy of mine uses a little oil on the rails and he's never had a problem either. Whatever you feel works best for you is fine although I wouldn't run it "wet", save that for the AR15.

For break-in, I use plenty of lube, mostly grease.

When I carry, I don't worry about cold, as my body heat keeps the gun warm.

I keep my carry gun lightly lubed, mostly with grease, because dry metal on dry metal is never good.

I've never allowed a gun to get so dirty that grease/oil could be blamed for a malfunction (attracting dirt), but I've seen plenty of guns go **** up because of being too dry.

It doesn't hurt to put a light dab of grease on the barrel lug, where it rides against the frame and on the bottom of the slide.
