Does anybody know what year(i dont have any serial number) and model is this 629? I may buy it so i need as much information as i can get. Thanks a lot.
Just to keep things straight and not start another bit of false information, the hammer and trigger are NOT cast. They are fabricated by Metal Injection Molding (MIM) which is not a casting process or even vaguely related to casting in any way.
I´ve seen the revolver today and it´s a 629-5, serial number CCS-5xxx. I´ve sent an email to S&W to find out what year it was manufactured and how it came out originaly. I will let you know further news. Thanks a lot.
It's a dash 5 made before 2001. It's laser etched which looks all faded on the outsides. It has the modern MIM trigger, hammer & frame mounted firing pin. Gun is a good one that can handle the heavy loads but them stocks IMHO are the worst for grip and feel. If you buy the gun switch it over to rubber and don't over pay on this gun because of the outside cosmetic issues.
I emailed S&W and they only told me that it was manufactured in 1998, i then emailed Lew Horton ([email protected]) and this is what they answered:
This is indeed a Lew Horton's Gun. It was made for us by Smith & Wesson in May of 1998. It is one of 1485 made it featured an unfluted cylinder, full lug barrel and rosewood grips.
, yes, yes, i did buy it, i paid U$S 900, i am in Argentina and handguns are a little more expensive than in the US, i will be testing it, hopefully, on Saturday or Sunday. I´ll let you know how it performed.
Bye!
