I went to a gun show today with the intention of selling or trading my SW9VE. Now, don't get me wrong. I have never had any trouble with it, and it shoots like a champ.

I originally bought it for CCW. To be honest it is just to big. I carry a 442 as my EDC gun.

Back to my plite....I would have had better luck trying to sell or trade a rabid dog. I carried it around for 3 hours, I talked to at least 20 differant dealers, I had people ask me what I had for sale only to have them walk of when I told them what I had.

I like my Sigma, It is super accurate, and the so called bad trigger pull is a myth to anyone that takes the time to learn and shoot it.

I recon it will become a gun vault queen. I want a gun that I can carry without a perament list to one side. I even had Ray from Lobo Gun Leather make me a beautiful IWB holster for it. I love the way my little 442 packs. I carry it in a Lobo OWB holster. All that I wanted was a nice light 9mm as a backup carry gun.

Just though I would tell my little tail of going to a gun show. I learned today what the rest of world thinks of a Sigma. "SAD.....".....

I don't own a Sigma but I know what you mean. Everything I have dealers tell me they can't sell those anymore, nobody is looking for that model, blue book says it's only worth this much, nobody wants a revolver anymore, etc. But... when they have the same gun for sale, it's a different story. These are hard to find this nice, they don't make em like this anymore. I just take it in stride and move on. Someone is looking for your gun, you just haven't found the right person yet.

Trying to sell or trade is usually insulting. I walked around the show in Birmingham today with a Charles Daly 1911 and Taurus Millineum Pro PT745.

Was looking to do a 2 for 1 deal for a bit higher quality 1911.

I valued the pair at $600. Only thing I saw that really caught my eye was a Colt Series 80 Mark IV for $625. Guy took a long look but decided he'd rather hold out for cash.

On the way home I took the pair in a local shop. Offered $200 on the Daly and $150 on the Taurus.

Heck TLG, I carry a 40VE IWB anytime I'm off duty and not packing something bigger. I use a Safariland 27, originally intended for the Glock 22, with the tension hardware removed. Fits the VE like a glove.

I'll qualify this by saying I've been packing iron for damn near 40 years now, which means a substantial part of that time was spent carrying 1911s and big DA or SA revolvers. Long ago, I accepted the fact that carrying substantial armament requires wardrobe adjustments and a certain amount of personal adaptation on the part of the bearer. I believe Clint Smith summed it up best when he said that a handgun should be comforting- not necessarily comfortable.

Some guns resell better than others but the VE's have qualities beyond their resale value. In your shoes, I guess I'd consider making the 9VE a dedicated car gun; or be prepared to take the hit if I was determined to sell it.

The sigma was born under a dark cloud as we all know. Once that happens in this world, a full recovery is never really achieved. Too many people thrive on dark clouds and have a vested interest in keeping something or someone down.

People will never pay what it's really worth on the used market. Dealers won't give you Jack for them either. It is what it is.

Seeing Sigmas on tables for over $350 is proof of that.

I saw them as high as $399 on some tables and as low as $299 others. The biggest shocker was a well used and abused looking one for $350. My jaw dropped and I nearly had to laugh. Had a few things on my list when I went to one in Nashville today and some of the prices were ridiculous. Only good deal looked to be on first aid kits. Wish I would have had more cash for one of them.

I did see a few of the SD's for right at $400 but seeing as I already have one of each I'm good for now, wink wink.

I know what you mean. 4 of the dealers I talked to had Sigma 9mm's for sale. $379 was the average price. Everyone of them told me that they can't move Sigma's new or used. I asked the one guy why he had it on his table. He politely asked me to move on. I politely told him where he could put his "unsellable gun".

Oh well, I will get it sold and buy the gun I want from Bud's. To the poster that said he carrys a Sigma off duty all the time, more power to you. I have arthritus of the hips and legs and it hurts. I tried....

I stand corrected, TLG. I blew my low back badly a few years ago and couldn't even stand to wear trousers with belt loops, much less a gunbelt.

I'll second what Lee said on dealers, particularly at shows.

When I am buying, the item I want is a rare collector's piece.
When I am selling, my item is common, been fired, has a turn ring, bad bore, and this model is not selling at any price.

True enough, the Sigma may be the "red headed, left handed step child" of the gun world, but if that is the case, then all we Sigma owners can do is accept that the gun is "ours" for good.

I carried my Sigma for two weeks last month, and it wore well for me, mainly thanks to the lighter weight, and a good belt holster with a proper forward cant.

Like I said earlier, I would love to carry it. My arthritus will just not allow that.

Almost every dealer I talked to had a Sigma. One dealer even told me what a great gun it was. (I was looking at it before I tried to trade mine to him). When I asked him about trading my Sigma, his story changed. He said he couldn't sell them to anyone. At the show there were at least 20 Sigma's for sale. The low price was $329, the high was $399. I saw one used one for $340.

The one I have, I bought new in March this year. I have fired around 3 to 400 rounds. The one I saw used was beat up. If the dealers have that many at the show, It looks like there is still a market for them.

I have absoutly no complaints about the quality or ability to shoot a Sigma. I don't need a decitated shooting firearm. I don't collect guns. I buy my guns for self defence. If I can't wear it, it is useless. I have several holsters for the Sigma. They are quality items. I even have a Lobo IWB that has the correct cant and was made for this gun. I wish I could carry it. I just can't. It's to darn big. Like I said before, I carry a Smith 442 every day. I want a nice, light weight, 9mm to carry once in a while.

I went back to the gun show for an hour this morning. Three of those gun's that no one can get rid of were sold. I just got to the table that had the used Sigma for $340, and watched a guy buy it.

So much for the threory that they don't sell. I went back to that dealer about 15 min. later and tried to trade with him again. Same sob story, "I can't sell a Sigma for any price".

You need to keep in mind that resale values of Sigmas are horrible. That is due to the fact S&W continues to offer a rebate with the purchase of a new one. That allows us to buy new ones relatively cheap. I would say I couldn't offer more than 150-160 for a used one if I were at a table.

I know where you are coming from. It would have been nice to have had someone to at least make me an offer.

I will get it sold. I just sold another gun I had less than two weeks ago. I got $300 out a 85UL Taurus snub nosed revolver. It was my backup carry. And please don't tell me I was right for selling the Taurus. The 85UL is a excellent firearm. I would trust my life to it any day of the week.

I know the reality of what faces a Sigma owner. You get what you pay for. In the case of the Sigma, the bad press hurts what is an excellent firearm. Just look at what is written about the Sigma on this forum. There are people here that call it junk. I really doubt that if the truth be know those members have never had one in their hands and go by what is written on the other forums.

I will defend it, but I want to sell it for a gun that suits my CCW needs.

I won't preach anymore. I origionally posted about my trip to a gun show. I hope you all have better luck than I did if you try and sell your gun. It isn't a piece of junk.The internet "experts" are 99% of the Sigmas bad rep.

What else could a person want in a gun. It goes bang when you pull the trigger. I know about the trigger issue. There really isn't an issue. The only problem with the Sigma is the person attached to the trigger has no idea how to shoot a real gun.

Hello all.....I finally got my Sigma sold. I got the price I wanted for it. ($300) So much for, "this model won't sell". The fellow that bought the Sigma from me was more than happy to get it.

I will now put the money toward my next purchase. I doubt it will be another Smith. For what I want the Smith's are just to heavy. The Sigma is a misunderstood firearm. I had no problem using it. It was just to big, (for me), as a CCW weapon.

I will continue to defend the Sigma. In the hands of someone with the sense to use it as is, it is an accurate and reliable firearm. Why change it? It works!!!

As a general rule, you're wasting your time trying to sell a used gun to a dealer. They can typically buy new guns at used gun prices, so they're not going to offer you anywhere near what you believe your gun is worth.

The only way for a dealer to make any money on a used Sigma is to buy it for $125-$150 and put it back out on his table for $250, in hopes of finding a buyer who doesn't know about the rebates from S&W.

I could buy a new one from a local dealer for $299 ($249 after the rebate), so I wouldn't give any more than $200 for a used one...and I'm not even a dealer. If I was buying it to resell for a profit, I wouldn't give any more than $150 for it either. Just my $.02

No.....But I did through in a 6 month old Lobo Gunleather IWB holster that Ray made for me. It cost over $50 when he made it for me.

Like I said, the person that bought it knew what he was getting. He is happy, and I am happy. I look at it this way, he got a great gun that has less than 300 rounds run through it, and I have almost the price of a new gun to rotate with my 442 for EDC.

As to what I sold it for, I made no profit. Anyone who sells these gun at bargin basement prices is cheating themselves.

Both the new owner and I are happy. What more can you say?.....
