I picked up a couple of fairly old used 22 rifles a week or so ago. Got to take them to the range today for the first time, and they were very accurate and cycled perfectly.
One is a Remington Speedmaster model 552 circa 1969
The other one is a Savage Stevens model 987 with a Barska 3-9 scope. Not sure the age on that one, but they were made between 72 and 89.
After that it was off to Sportsman's Warehouse to find out they are getting more and more primers in. They have a limit of 200 per customer. $7 per hundred, so I grabbed some CCI 550 SPP. I'm going to dollar cost average my primer buying from now on.
They also are getting in more powder each time I go, so I grabbed some AA#2. Didn't really need it, but itching to try it compared to W231 and VV N320 since they all 3 have very similar burn rates. Also picked up some StaBALL 6.5 to compare with H4350. I can already tell it meters way better than H4350 from my powder drop. Hoping it shoots as well or better.
On the way out, I stumbled on some .22 cal pellets. Perfect for an old HyScore pistol pellet gun my wife had that belonged to her father. Test fired a couple when I got home, and they shoot great.
We are looking forward to some good shooting ahead with the grandkids. I think they're going to look forward to visits with grandma and grandpa once we get them shooting. Who knows? When they finish high school, they might just get a firearm for graduation.
Anyway, keep your heads up. Every day you can get to the range is a good one. The ammo/powder/primer situation seems to be SLOWLY getting better too.
