What are some easy methods for removing/replacing grips on 5906/4006 pistols?

Alright, so I've ordered the grips, now I play the waiting game until they arrive, which could be quite some time since they're shipping from Turkey.
Once the grips have arrived, I'll post a follow-up thread, complete with pics.

Beggars can't be choosers...

I didn't beg for anything, I merely asked, and many folks were capable of providing answers without being unnecessarily rude or sarcastic in their responses.

You answered my question in the very first sentence, which is much appreciated. The rest was completely irrelevant and unnecessarily indignant towards a minor difference in opinion which is evidently not uncommon. Next time, I suggest that you spare both yourself and the recipient the time by simply stopping at the first sentence, or at least politely state your opinion on the subject. For example, a simple; "I disagree, I feel that the 3rd Gen grip design has a few advantages over conventional designs and that installation/removal is more convenient, you simply have to learn the proper technique." would have been much better.

John does not need nor did he ask for my defense, but then again, this isn’t John’s forum so he “gets” whatever I elect to write here. ;)

In any case, you might consider a couple points.

1) half your posts on this site are fat, overstuffed rants dripping with sarcasm. For anyone who doesn’t know what I reference, point the search engine to “crackerjack boys.” It’s tiresome and wasn’t any good when you first did it, it’s worse now.

2) John posted in THIS discussion, a discussion that YOU started. It isn’t YOUR discussion. It belongs to Lee and his forum. And you for darn sure certain are not the only recipient of what gets posted in this or any thread here. Many active participants and countless non-active viewers gain knowledge and we wouldn’t have the time nor energy to count the scads of folks who have gained from the succinct posts from JohnHL and folks like him, who are willing to take the time to share their knowledge and experience.

I can only hope that the next time John has something to add, it wasn’t a smarmy post of yours that makes him say “sigh, is this even worth my time?”

Thank you JohnHL, for all that contribute here. You’ll never truly know how many benefit because you did take the time to post.

the greatest place to to ask questions ----- a gun show !

I know I’ve posted these pictures before but I wanted to do it again.

A few years ago I got this little “comic book” instruction in a grip order from Numrich. Back then I said I’d never seen these before but I guess they used to be standard, with a “tool” to depress the mainspring plunger included.

Just kinda reminded me of the same thing that came with the .45 Liberator.

OP, you'll find the wood grips are thicker/fatter than the S&W delrin grips.

I'm aware that they're thicker than the stock grips, but they're also substantially thinner than the Hogue grips that are currently on my 4006.
Besides, I just plain like wood grips, and the ones that I ordered are basically duplicates of the stock delrin grips, but made of Walnut.

My 4006TSW is a special gun to me, being what was essentially my Grail Gun, ergo I wanted to fit it with some special grips.

How's this for simple:

"I disagree.

And if I were looking for Forum posting advice, I would seek out someone whose posts I respected."

John is, amongst other things, REALLY bad at math! :D

I’ve only bought from KSD once and the stocks I ordered don’t apply to this discussion. The customer service was exemplary and the shipping was fairly swift considering the distance but the e-mail updates during the shipping to keep me on board with the progress of travel were excellent.

Hopefully you didn’t ruin the hogue grips. If they have a S&W monogram in the center, they are original that CHP issued to officers with large hands. Only about 100 grips were issued

I’ve never heard that angle on the CHP guns and the Hogue with the S&W emblem. However, it’s worth noting that the Performance Center PPC-9 pistols also came with the big fat Hogue rubber grip, and it has that genuine S&W emblem in them.

I thought I had heard of Hogue Grips with the S&W emblem being sold by the S&W parts/accessories department.

But an original issue to a CHP gun/officer adds a little to the collectability aspect.

Nope, the Hogues on my 4006TSW just have the Hogue logo, and they aren't original to the gun at all. The vendor had received a late batch of CHP 4006TSWs that had arrived with broken or otherwise missing grips, so they just fitted them with new Hogues and packaged them in equally unoriginal factory blue clamshell cases to sweeten the deal since a lot of other places were offering them with the original delrin grips as well as 2 or more magazines.

Here's a pic with a closeup of the grips, as you can see, the logo is just the ordinary Hogue Logo.

It isn't visible in the original pic that I posted in the OP, but my 4006TSW actually has a bit of finish wear and surface scratches on it, yet the grips are completely spotless because they were freshly slapped on after the fact.
