My eyes are going - something to do with my hair turning gray -
and I am having problems seeing the sights. I opened the rear sight blade to better distinguish front from rear sights on my K22 from 1961. Reblued the rear notch.

Got out my mod 63, opened it up and the blue did not affect it at all. So, if its not taking blue, what is it made of ?

For pinned front sight models, XS makes a great white-outlined-Tritium Standard Dot drop-in. Additionally you can U-notch (expand) the adjustable rear or consider Cylinder & Slide's aftermarket U-notched combat rear which fits all adjustble rear taps. With "silver highlights" finding their way into my hair too, I appreciate such on my OEM M&P340 and 396NG (pictured) and XS(-only) swapped into my M60-9.

My gun smith, who's also a factory (S&W) trained LE armorer, tells me the current production rear sights are made of stainless and blackened. I found the same problem when I tried to "touch up" a worn on the edges rear sight with cold blue...no change, not even darkening.

Would not have thought about stainless ... but it sure wouldn't take bluing. Thought maybe they went cheap on us.

I have never used the Hi viz sights, but I may be forced to. I like the sight picture. Thanks for the pic.
