Just bought a Marlin 336BL and the factory sights pretty much suck and want to replace them with something better. What would you recommend to replace them with and where to get them. I checked Brownells and was looking at the ghost ring but figured I better ask someone with a little more knowledge with rifle sights. Thanks

wildwestguns dot com. I think I might have one, pm if interested.

I put the XS System Ghost Ring on my M94, I really like it. fast target acquisition, takes a little getting used to if your not familiar with peep sights.

Marlin Sight Options....

The Lyman 66LA Receiver Sight and a Marble's 1/16" Gold Bead are the best combination I have found so far for Marlin Leverguns. I have several so set up in .30-30, .35, .375WCF, .45-70. You can add a Lyman No. 16 midsight if you like, or simply install a blank in the dovetail. I hunt with a 336 Marauder in .35 Remington every season and have taken alot of game with it.

I like the Skinner sights.
1895 Sight
Here is one on my 1894. Mine works fine with the factory front sight.

Sebago Son's post describes the class iron sight arrangement. Try the Lyman w/o the rear sight disk.

Lyman 66LA and a 1/16" Gold Bead...

For fast shooting out to 150 yars or so, this combination just plain works well on lever guns...

We'd call him a "Chili Buck" or a "Sausage Deer" down here.
When you get right down to it, meat is what hunting's about.
I love those Marlins with the Lyman sights, too.
Never had a Marlin with one on it, but I did have a 66 on a Savage 99 once.

Another vote for the Skinner sights.

I picked up a nice pre-safety 336 for cheap about two years ago and wanted better sights. I already had the XS ghost ring setup on another 336 and found it to be fine, so I decided to go with something different and got the Skinner front and rear units.

I can't say for sure what it is about those sights, but I can shoot really, really well with them. Much better than with the XS setup.

I had wanted a tang sight but the serial number of the rifle is on the tang and it would have been defaced.

I put a Williams on mine. It fits in the two rearmost holes on the receiver top. Contrary to instructions, the hammer offset was not needed. The sights came as a set with a front Firesight which was just enough taller than the original Marlin sight to zero at 50 Yds. The front sight hood had to be removed for things to work out. Two different sized screwdrivers are needed to adjust & lock the sight. I'm not nuts about that.

William's "Fool Proof" Sights.

Bob,

I've never been able to warm up to the Williams receiver sights... I much prefer the click adjustablilty of the Lyman. To me it is more precise and saves alot of ammo when sighting in...

I may switch out to the Lyman, Drew. Every time I try out new ammo I get into screwdriver swap induced insanity. Part of my reason for selecting the Williams was I did not want to drill and tap the receiver.

I have 10 Marlins. 9 have the Williams Foolproofs on them. The 410 Levergun obviously doesn't need one.I've used that combo for 37 years with no complaints or problems from the sights or the guns. Nick

+1for the skinner sight. The fellow that makes them is a nice guy that will take the time to talk to you. I have them on mt 39-A as well as my stainless 357 carbine. They are like pieces of jewelry that you look through, the brass one I put on my 39-A looked like it was scratched on the side when I unwrapped it, turns out that was the joint in the parts for adjustment!the best part was that the sights just bolted on and just worked, no adjustment needed. I have no interest in his company, just a very satisfied customer:)

Thanks alot guys! I think I am going with the Skinner Express sight, it looks like a well made sight. I would never have know about it except for you guys and thanks for the link to there websight. Thanks again guys!
