What caliber is your favorite revolver?

What caliber is your favorite revolver of any brand?

Pretty easy in my case. The only one I currently own is S&W 69 in 44 magnum. Although I do not shoot full power magnums out if it very often. I have owned 22 and 10mm S&Ws in the past but sold them. But I am thinking about either a 63 or 617 in 22 LR.

I tried to include most of the common calibers but if your favorite is some sort of weird 19th century European thing or a wildcat let me know and I will add it to the list.

ETA: I am not seeing a way to add items to the list, sorry all you 442 Webley fans.

357 Magnum

While I had shot my Father's Model 66s, my love affair with the cartridge truly began in 1977 when I bought my first new revolver, a 6" Nickel 27

This is a tough question. It's probably my 25-2 Smith 45 acp. Second would be my 617 Smith.

I think that the 38/357 family can do anything one could reasonably ask a revolver to do. If you need more power, get a rifle.

I am blessed with owning quite a few revolvers from a 22 caliber 617 to a 500 Magnum and lots in between. Ot of all of them, I think the 3 inch Model 60-10 is my favorite. Small enough to carry concealed, powerful enough to carry for a backup gun Elk hunting in Colorado. Plenty accurate. Versatile with ammo choices from 38 wadcutter target loads to full power 357 Magnums. 629 Mountain Revolver a close second. It was hard not to pick the Miculek 625 or the Thunder Ranch 325. It is like trying to decide which one of your kids you love the most. I love them all.

Got to be the .357 Magnum. Hard to beat the S&W model 27 or 28 for

38 S&W Special. Powerful..accurate..inexpensive..easy to find and a joy to use. Plus its cool telling people its 36 caliber..not 38. My Dads service revolver from the Vietnam war was my first handgun and still my favorite. 15-2 with all target goodies. Spoiled for life!

For sentimental reasons mine is a .22 lr.... iver Johnson 22 supershot, 7 shot.... was my grandpa's.... sentimentality aside.... its hard to beat the feel of my 28-2 in 357

The only revolvers I have are .38 Special. If I were going to get a new revolver, it'd probably be a .38 Special or a .357 Magnum and load it with .38 Special.

I do love my .44 magnums, but I have to vote for the .357 magnum for its pure versatility. There is a wide range of .38 special and .357 magnum ammunition available and it's cheaper than .44. The 686 started my love of S&W and it remains a favorite.

357 Magnum...5" 27-2, specifically. Probably one of the last factory 5" 27s to leave the factory. Shipped on Nov 28, 1978. While it's obviously .357 Mag, it sees more than it share of .38 Spl loads.

I like to toss 240gr chunks of lead, but not Magnum recoil. 44 Special.

I like precision and simple plinking so this lowly .22 suits me fine.

Voted for the .44 mag. I like N frames, and if you are a reloader, the .44 mag. can be loaded from very mild to wild. Targets, small game, large game, self defense. Easy peasy with the right load.

At this time I have a few revolvers and over the course of time have owned a bunch more, from many different companies!

My favorite revolver I would say after careful deliberation, overnight sleeping and flipping a coin would have to be my Model 28 6'' purchased new mid 1970s.

I was doing a lot of PPC shooting and did not want to tie up a lot of money in a space gun. So I modified the 28 by putting in a Ranger trigger, a better trigger pull, grips and outlined rear sight. So that will explain that most rounds fired out of this gun have been.38s. Over the course of my PPC shooting I put many thousand .38 rounds down range. (one great advantage of living close to my gun club!)

Course as the 28 is as built a .357M it got quite a few of those fired also, some hot enough to be measured on the Richter scale. Hey I was younger then and had a lot to learn!

.38 for me, specifically the model 15 followed by my 642. I value the versatility of the .357 but my revolvers are primarily carried when woods bumming or hunting with a rifle or shotgun. In my neck of the woods anything I want to shoot can be handled by the .38. Pleasant to shoot, accurate, sufficiently powerful and less damaging to my hearing.

I guess I was influenced too much by Skeeter Skelton instead of Elmer Keith as I voted 357 magnum . The Lyman 358156 cast bullet on top of 13.5grs of 2400 or 7.0 grs of Unique loaded in either a 357 magnum case (crimped in the top crimp groove) or 38 special case using the lower crimp groove is a favorite for me . Many thousands of rounds down range using that combo . Regards Paul

That said...... 2nd favorite is a 4" .22lr Model 18

Favorite revolver for me means different things. For shooting it would be my 6" 25-9 in .45 Colt. For sentiment it would be my 4" 27-3 .357 magnum I picked up for my 1st police academy. For CCW it would be one of my 3" 657's in .41 magnum. So that is 3 different calibers!

I was late to the hobby, only starting after retirement. I started with an "Introduction to Firearms" course offered at a local range. It included the use of any range rental gun I wanted to try. I was like Goldilocks, shooting guns until I found the one that was "just right", the 686.
So I only own 686+ revolvers. Favorite plinking loads are factory 158gr magnums.

I still like the one that I got in the late 60s up in Alaska..My M-57 41 mag, Did what it was bought for at least once. Carried a bunch but not shot all that much, Sold once and bought back many years later. It ain't going anywhere again. I must admit there are many S&Ws I truly like to carry such as the 3 1/2 " 27 and the 4 inch 16-4. But that ol 57 is my fave...
Added a couple of pics of the 57 27 and 16-4...the other picture is the 4 inch 29-2 I did a trigger job on in 81...and bought from the owners son 3 years ago. He bobbed the hammer but it still has a great trigger. I do carry it in the car or truck frequently. 240 gr SWC over 10 gr Herco.

The gun is this 657-3. Very accurate and excellent trigger.

Those are my favorites but honestly the 38 LCR gets carried the most.
