.45 Long Colt

It was basically the premier big bore centerfire revolver cartridge. Sure, the cartridge has evolved somewhat over the years to strengthen the case, insure reliability in rifles, and even generate more power in the Ruger Only loads, but even in its original Black Powder configuration it was a powerful round which was designed with cavalry in mind, thus making it effective against horses as well as humans.

The only pity about the round is how much commercial factory loads have been watered down out of concern for old Black Powder frames, so now you've basically got 3 power factors going from pipsqueak .45LC Cowboy Loads which are actually closer to .38 Special than the actual horseslayers that were around back in the day, then there are the defensive loads which are loaded hotter, offering performance similar to .44 Special, but still fall short of the classic BP loads in terms of energy, then there are the hot "Ruger Only" or so-called "+P" loads which rival .44 Magnum. Only specialty loads replicate the performance of the classic BP loads, which launch a 255gr bullet at 1000fps and deliver an impressive yet not excessive amount of muzzle energy, especially out of a 6" Barrel.

Someday I would love to get myself a proper Single Action Army style Revolver, just a fun classic .45 to take to the range.

.45 Colt

Thanks for specifying "any make". That saved me from choosing between my Ruger Vaquero and my 25-5. The first gets the 300 gr. +P bear and boar stuff, the second 8 grains of Unique under a 250 RNFP and both are a joy.

.357 mag hands down. I've got several 9mm, a .44mag, have had a .380 and several .45 ACP but I like my .357s as I have such a huge choice of ammo to shoot and both my .357s are very accurate with just anything I shoot through them.

.38 Special Model 12-2
.357 Magnum Model 65-1
These are my EDCs, so it's tough to pick just one.

That's too specific of a question for me; "What caliber is your
favorite revolver of any brand"?

I like all my S&Ws in 22lr, 38S&W Spl, 357S&W Mag, 44S&W Spl,
44Rem Mag, 45ACP, and 45Colt. I also reload for these Big Bores.

I like the 41Rem Mag too, just don't have a Revolver yet, but
got the Dies.

Really like my 686 SSR. Love my 4.2 inch model 69. For shear beauty, it would be my model 65-5 3 inch LadySmith.

However, I happen to have a Ruger Vaquero in 44 special that is just insanely fun to shoot and, for me, is the most accurate of the lot.

I would have guessed this would come out about 30% each .38/.357, .44 Special and .44 Mag. Then the other 10% divided among various calibers with .45acp making up the lions share of the 10%. Shows what I know.

Poll should breakout the 38 Special as follows:

38 Special std velocity
38 Special +P
38-44

I like them all some more than others depending on my preference at the time.

.38 Special

Model 10, 64, 15, and Colt Official Police. Have more .38 special revolvers than any other caliber. Goes back to when my career in LE began in 1976. Once you carry a specific caliber revolver daily for years and your life depended on it, you are partial to it.

That the 38 and 357 had so many votes was about what I expected. What surprised me was the 41 mag getting a few more votes than the 44 mag. And I expected more votes for 22 LR.

Very tough decision, since 44 mag is one of my fav all time rounds.

I'm going to have to go with 357 mag... just a beautiful, beautiful round it is. All time great

.44 magnum, with .357 close behind.

I have a .454 Casull, it is fun to shoot for about 6 rounds, then the fun is over.

44 Special

Rossi M720 for winter carry in a shoulder holster.
Ruger Flattop Blackhawk 44 SPL for a range toy.

Those are my favorites but honestly the 38 LCR gets carried the most.

I have a Stainless Flattop Bisley Blackhawk in .44 Special and it is fast becoming my favorite revolver.

32-20 for me, but your poll is incomplete at least you need an other category for us to vote.

I thought I could add categories after posting but do not see a way to do so. I must have been thinking of some other forum, probably GlockTalk. I would have added more categories if I knew I could not do so later.

But to be honest 32-20 might have been missing even if I had added more. Not saying its a bad cartridge, its just one I am not familiar with.

38 Special for me. My favorite revolvers to shoot in that caliber are a pair of 4" S&Ws -a Model 10 & 64, along with my 3" Ruger SP101.

I chose .357 because of it's versatility. I almost chose .22 magnum for the same reason but the bigger gun is a better defense round. However truth be told I use .22 LR the most for plinking, dispatching: rattlesnakes, skunks, packrats, etc.

Although I have handguns in the following calibers .22, .25, .32, 32-20, .380, 9mm, 38spl .357 mag .44mag, .45acp, 45 Colt. My favorite ones to shoot are my S&W K22 made around 1948, and a Ruger standard made aound the mid 1950's.

My favorite revolver(s) are .32 H&R magnum caliber (S&W M16-4 and Ruger single six Bisley).
If you'd asked what gun is your favorite caliber, the answer would be S&W M624 (.44 special).

George

While .44 Special is the caliber I prefer above all others my most prized possession in the firearms line is my 1955 Ruger Blackhawk . Belonged to my Pap then my Dad then me . I been shooting it for over 50 years .
