What can you fine folks tell me about Missouri?

Duly noted . . .

I agree with you, Muss.

O'Fallon and eastern St .Charles County (along the I-70 corridor) are what my friends and I call the "North St. Louis County extension", and that is a place to stay very, very far away from.

But the O.P. has family there and St. Charles county is still mostly red and the O'Fallon area is not too bad yet, but it's definitely coming.

Muss, the O.P. is a smart guy, and he will figure this out pretty quick when he starts getting familiar with the area.

Yup, that's the Mo. I know.

The O.P. (IMHO) is a rock solid supporter of the sorts of things we tend to believe in, and folks like that are always welcome, in my book.

We need more of his kind to offset the lefties who ruin their own communities and then move to nice places like Missouri and then try to ruin them.

Missouri isn't necessarily an exciting state.

I've got little interest in St. Louis, but there are opportunities there. The rivers are good for kayaking and canoeing. The Ozarks are a nice place for a retreat or camping. National forests are rather unique to be there, for the lower midwest.

Cost of living would be ideal for retiring. Most of the state is conservative with the exception of St. Louis and Kansas City.

You'll get all four seasons and tornados and thunderstorms. A couple of weeks a year it'll be below 20. A few weeks it will be above 90 with matching relative humidity. Some mosquitos, but not too bad. Days never get too long or short compared to more northern latitudes.

I moved to Columbia 18 years ago from Louisiana. For 20 years, I spent 200 nights a year in hotels going all over the US, all the big cities, all the different weather. Missouri is the sweet spot. You get all 4 seasons, none more extreme than the other. Mild comparatively. St. Louis is no Zanadu but it has it good spots. I can't speak to work as it sent me here so it came with but the people for the most part are good folks. If you are asking for advice in a gun forum, I am guessing you are on the right side of the 2nd Amendment. If you are not, just letting you know, you neighbors will be. ;) I have lived and worked in lots of places. Home is where you make it. I worked 42 days once in NYC. Let's not let them know how good we have it down here. They might come for dinner and never leave. Be safe. Aim small, miss small.
