I've got a line on this gun for 200 I'm sure its been refinished. The seller claims it's a model 1 second issue but I'm thinking it is a 3rd issue because of the fluted cylinder. Any info would help it is a 22 short whats the value and how had is it to find ammo if I did want to shoot it?

From what I can see, it is a 3rd issue, and it does appear to have been refinished and not by the factory. In that condition $200 would be about the going money.

The only .22 Short ammunition safe to use in this revolver is .22 Short CB, which is very lightly loaded. I'm not sure, but there may be no powder at all, just the priming compound. Don't use normal .22 Short ammunition, even standard velocity. I think CCI still makes CB. There's no real reason to shoot these old revolvers, other than maybe just to say you've done it.

$200 seems generous for this gun if it has been refinished. There's no lack of good Model 1 3rd Issues out there; I only paid about $250 for mine, and it's in excellent shape.

I can't in good conscience recommend shooting CB caps in these guns. The walls of the cylinder are paper-thin, and after 140+ years there's a good chance that corrosion has eaten away at that metal. It's a delicate old relic; I'd enjoy it thus and preserve it for future generations by not shooting it.

There are a few different loadings offered by CCI for 22 Short ammo. 22 CB Shorts contain powder and 22 CB Caps do have a pinch of powder, but 22 BB Caps do not have any powder. I have not seen 22 Cap ammo for purchase in a long time.

I have chronographed all the light 22 loads in a short barrel revolver and found the following:

22 CB Shorts run 450 fps
22 Shorts (standard target ) run 990 fps
22 Black Powder Shorts run 600 fps (original UMC Ammo)
22 CB Caps run 475 fps
22 BB caps run 400 fps
22 CB long (not HV) run 700 fps (not for Model 1)

The reason I did these tests were that there are so many published velocities on these rounds out there with huge spreads, including factory information, that I had to see for myself. These numbers are from CCI ammo, except for the BP loads. Much of the published data does not even state whether the velocities were obtained from a rifle or revolver.

I do shoot 22 CB Shorts in my Model 1s and Ladysmiths with no bad effects, but do it sparingly.

Hi, .22 BB Caps are powered by primer only. They are not cheap!

As said above, $200 would be Christmas in October for the seller! Much better original guns for sale out there for not much more than $200. Pass on it. Ed.
