What do you prefer in a Model 10 -- tapered or heavy barrel?

I prefer the heavy barrel. I used to think the pencil barrels didn't look good at all, but after seeing a bunch of pictures of'em on here they're starting to grow on me a little. :D

I would definitely buy one if I ran up on the right deal.

I only own one Model 10 and it's a 10-5 that my Dad bought new in 1968 and then he passed it on to me. It has less then 50 rounds through it and will reside in our family from now on. I personally like the heavy barrel but this one holds a special place in my heart with it's pencil barrel.

I guess I'll close out this thread, since I started it. I ended up buying a Model 64-3 with heavy barrel for $200 on Gunbroker.com. Cost to my door was $285. The gun is in excellent condition. I prefer blued, but the price was too good to pass up.

Have a nice Thanksgiving, all!

This was a BD present from my wife a few years ago. I understand the advantages to the HB for serious shooting, but I don't much serious shooting so this one is perfect IMO.

I love the looks of my 4", 10-5, shark tooth sighted gun. It is perfectly regulated and I find the front sight especially easy to pick up. It is a joy to shoot. Still, I dream about finding a nice 3", heavy-barreled, round-butted model 10.

IMHO....
I prefer K frame model 10 with the Tapered standard barrel.
J frames best with snub barrels and Magnums with Bull barrels,

I do own 2 K frame snubs and a 3" bull barrel J frame.
What can I say...Variety is the spice of life.
Cheers

If it is a 4 inch or longer tube, I like the skinny barrel. Now on the 3 inch, make it the robust one. 2 inch, why even bother on a gun as large as a k-frame? Always thought the 5 inch pencil barrels were some of the best looking revolvers ever.

I like the heavy barrel. It makes the 4" M10 look like the M58's baby brother.

You are absolutely right.
A couple years ago I thought the same thing....

Here's a photo comparison of the two models....

Long live the Model 10/M&P....:)

the standard barrel for me. in a Model 10-5. I have a Model 10 in the heavy barrel RB which is nice but the tapered barrel has great lines to it and points so well.
