My wife likes going with me to shoot. She enjoys shooting my Ruger (she says hers) MkII and won't shoot anything else even if it is the same caliber. She hates revolvers. At least twice she has told me not to buy her a gun.

However. Everytime we go to Cabela's we make a mandatory visit to the gun library. On several of those visits she has pointed out a Colt Woodsman that she likes. She has even mentioned it when we're away from the store.

The Colt is priced at $1350. I would rather spend the money on something else but I would buy it for her if she wanted it.

I would like to ask her out right but I don't like to billboard gifts.

It may come down to that but I don't like to tell her what her gifts are going to be. If I do that I might as well hand her the money and let her buy it. But she would never spend that much money anyway.

I should have put a poll on this thread.
If you don't know ask. It's like there are no stupid questions.

If she's mentioned it more than once, especially if you are away from the store, then I would say she is dropping you a subtle hint. That's just a guess of course.
Why can't women just come out and say, "I really like the look of that gun. Wish I had one". It would make our lives so much easier!

Hey there! How many years have you been married? Don'tcha know that women drop suggestions disguised as obtuse hints? One just dropped on you like an anvil from the 4th floor and you didn't even realize it! Of course she wants it! The only question now is can you afford it?

I'm with Paladin. Find a way to afford it.

Maybe this will help...

Of course, I said in the op that even though I would rather spend the money elsewhere I would get it for her. And I have caught the hints but she has repeatedly said do NOT buy her a gun. There in lies my dilemna.
Ain't she worth it?

If she likes that style of pistol, I would try and get a Browning Buckmark or perhaps even a High Standard in her hands sometime- both would be available for considerably less money and maybe make her just as happy.

Go to the store with her put it in her hand and say Merry Christmas, if she says what a great gift I love you, buy it. Use the excuse she needs to fill out the paperwork to make it hers. If she looks at you and says I Said I Did Not Want A Gun, smile and regroup.

Ya know... if you buy it for her & she doesn't like it...

... that's how I got "my" 22/45. :D

But, has she said NOT to buy her a gun since she has seen (and mentioned) the Colt?

Get her a SS Mark III. It is shinny and bright, shoots like a house a fire, and you don't need a bank loan to buy it. If she does not like it you can either keep it or you want have much trouble getting most of your money back on it especially if you buy it used and at a decent price.

Personally, I consider the price for that Woodsman to be obscene, and I would not pay that for a .22 when the Ruger is probably the better gun for a fraction of the price. That is even more so for someone who is a casual shooter.

Better still get her the Ruger and with the extra get her something very nice and very personal like jewelry that she is not expecting.

thats because SHE's checking your temperature on it before she buys it for YOU.
Its not ALWAYS hard ... just USUALLY ;)

....and we wonder why the war of the sexes drags on and on.....hints, tones, "suggestions", gestures - what's a guy to do? Is it even possible to get it right?

My wife says the same thing about flowers. "Don't you buy me any flowers". So I solved the problem. Whenever we are in a store that sells fresh cut flowers I pick up a bouquet and find her in the store and hand them to her. She's never kept any of them. But I tried.

Paging the OP. What model Woodsman is the one in the store? The Woodsman is a beautiful beautiful gun but generation and barrel length and obviously condition influence the price. They did make a bunch of them and they are out there. So I ask again-what model were you looking at? If it is double a fair price then find an identical one at the "correct" price.
