What Else Do You Collect Besides Firearms?

I have been a coin collector since I was a kid.

In 1987 I went on a business trip from California to Washington, DC, and while there I picked up a small (6ish inch) bald eagle statue. Since then my spouse and step-daughter buy me anything bald eagle!!! I have many statues (some 2 to 3 feet tall), paintings, prints, etc.

It gives the ladies something to buy for me and makes them happy. I have a few stuck back in a closet as I ran out of wall space!!!:)

I even occasionally find them in the back yard!!:D

LOL, I'm ADHD and my accumulations change as soon as I get bored with them.
Collected Finnish Mosin Nagants for awhile, have dozens of odd models.
Collected Ambassadeur fishing reels and old direct drive reels, boxes of them.
Collected wind-up watches, boxes of them.
Odd collection of Featherweight sewing machines, had about 50 of them at one time. Rebuilt and sold most of them to buy S&W.
Collect Nikon manual focus lenses, actually use a lot of them.
Collect craft beer bottles (1 from every new six-pack I try). Wall full of them.
Old frontier era history books, Texana, Native history.
Etc........

redwing shoes. i have 2 more pair that aren't pictured and H.O. aurora slot cars. i kind of have a collection of motorcycles too, 3 HD, 1 yamaha and 3 hondas.

Very old sewing machines. This Willcox Gibbs is a chain-stitcher and is the type used during the Civil War.

Nice to know that I'm not the only one with sewing machines. Most of mine are pre 1900 hand crank. I just like them. Haven't sewed the first stitch.

Yep, ride Harley's, shoot guns and collect sewing machines. Doesn't everyone? :D

Here's a pic of a cabinet with a few of them

American pocket watches-specifically early stuff(pre-1880s), certain Waltham models and/or grades(I have a running joke with a good friend about the number of 1883 model Crescent Sts I have), high grade Illinois 18 size and Getty model watches watches, high grade private labels from any maker, Kentucky private labels of any grade or condition, and anything weird or interesting that strikes my fancy.

As an example, this is a Waltham 16 size 1860 model "American Watch Company" grade from about 1864. It was likely on of the highest grade watches in the world at the time. I need to find a nice 18K case for it(it's currently in a presently but very likely unoriginal coin silver case).

I have for the past few years been collecting Macintosh computers. I started off with G4-era towers, but have been moving increasingly toward high end 68K systems(anyone have a Quadra 840AV lying around?) and the very early compacts. I'm also fleshing out my PowerBook collection. I'm currently fighting with getting a PowerBook 170 fully operation, but also am looking for a few other 100 and 500 series models along with a 1400c.

I have collected cameras for years, although useability is an important consideration for me. I tend to shy away from oddball formats because of that. I even avoid 5x7 in sheet film cameras since it's significantly harder to find than even 8x10, and is more expensive by a long shot than 4x5. My interests are all over the place-I love Graflex cameras, although also have a Burke and James 4x5 flatbed view camera that I tend to use more than my Speed Graphic because it's lighter and more "flexible." I have a couple of pre-WWII 4x5 lenses, some of which have a lovely glow about them, but picked up a 1980s Rodenstock 150mm not too long ago for more predictable color work. I LOVE Rolleiflexes. I buy Japanese SLRs to use, but also tend to chase rare Canon variants and accessories. Grudgingly, after being given a Nikon F3, I've worked backwards and added both an F and F2 along with a handful of lenses. My workhorse camera is a Bronica SQ-A, although I have a chance to buy a Bronica S kit(1960s) and will likely pick it up-they are a bit clunky but the styling is beautiful and they have Nikkor lenses.

Great heavens, Ben....you seem to have one of the more advanced cases of collectivittus on the thread.....and if I recall correctly, you are still a young man.

Well, you are in good company here, as I look down the thread, I see many advanced, chronic cases to keep you company!!!

Best Regards, And just kidding!!!

I don't collect guns. I only have two.

I do collect knives, I have about 50 (haven't counted lately). No particular type or make, although I like daggers. I also am partial to Marbles and Buck Knives.

I have a large collection of Bettie Page stuff, photos, magazines, anything Bettie. I am a member of her fan club. Rest in peace Bettie, May God Bless You.

Lighthouse models, I have 40 and growing.

Slide rules, hand held calculators.

I have a large collection of matchbooks for my travels around country. but it all fits in a box and doesn't take up a lot of room.

I am an avid photographer and used to have a large collection of old cameras, all in working condition. But, I sold them.

When I sold my house and moved into my motorhome I had to get rid of a lot of stuff. So the cameras went. I had a large library, hundreds of books, most of that went. I kept a few that are special. Anything that takes up a lot of room had to go.

And last but not least, I have a lot of Coast Guard photos and memorabilia.

Got a couple Minolta slr's and several lenses if you're interested. Dad gave them to me, and I thought i might use them, but really, who's using film anymore?

Actually quite a few people still shoot in film. I was still shooting film (as well as digital) until about 6 months ago. 35 mm with a Canon SLR EOS camera. There are many still shooting in medium format and large format cameras using film. The general consuming public has gone digital but many diehard avid photographers still shoot in film, especially in black and white, because there is a distinct difference in the result between digital and film. However, it is getting more and more difficult to find labs to process the film. I never got into processing my own film, but wish I had. It would have simplified things.

Yes.

I'll admit it. There is a fine line between collector and hoarder sometimes. I collect cool things. My family has been in the antique business for 5 generations so I've been exposed to all kinds of fine items. I come by it honestly, lol. Mostly old things get my interest. I have a casual interest in many things, and only so much space, so it doesn't serve me well to collect too many of anything in particular. Bona fide collections are expensive habits!

I'll share some insight from a customer of my Dad's that had an antique furniture collection that was as extensive and noteworthy as any in the country. Dad asked him what it was like to know you have such a valuable collection? He said his collection was an investment in the future. He pays for the privilege of preserving these irreplaceable pieces of history for future generations.

I think he had the right perspective.

I collect spent artillery shell casings. Clean up the insides with phosporic acid to get rid of the firing residue, remove the dents where possible and then sand them down and polish them up. Then they get to sit on top of my armoire in all their brillance. Sometimes will add a bayonet to my collection. I like military surplus rifles from different countries U.S. arms, Spanish,Argentine,Chilean,Swiss,Swedish,British,Finland,Russia and others I've forgotten. Keeps me broke and off the streets. And last a small hit and miss engine out in the garage. Frank

WHOA!!! Pretty cool, though I dare not show this to my wife.

However, if I were to do so, and you hooked me up with a couple of those, she wouldn't have much to say if/when I was to bring home more N frames...

Also, I realized that I failed to mention that I collected marbles when I was a kid; it's clear to everyone who knows me that I lost those long ago.

:D
