I don't ask this question lightly and I know that I have my faults.

I have been guilty of making comments that obviously upset some, so don't take this as a holier than thou type post, but what is the deal here?

I have been a member of this forum for several years and have seen my share of arguments and disagreements but the current level of what is going on is unacceptable.

The moderators do their thing, and do a pretty good job, but we are all adults here and it is time for a little bit of self restraint folks.

I realize that everyone has an opinion and I find many of those enlightening, even if I don't agree. But just because I don't agree doesn't make it okay for me to be a total jerk to the person who has that different opinion.

This forum was put here for the enjoyment of Smith and Wesson firearms with some pretty strict rules on what is and isn't allowed to be discussed. At least make an effort to act like you know this. And if you don't know, because you are new or have forgotten, take a few seconds to read them.

I realize this isn't my place to say anything but somebody needed too, before we lose this place we come to, where we share a common interest in Smith and Wesson firearms.

I won't be responding to the bashing but I hope you take the time to think about what is written here.

Many forums have been experiencing a decline in participation of its more experienced/knowledgeable members over the past few years.
It’s not something unique here.

There are many possible reasons.
I suspect that when someone goes to the trouble of writing a well worded and informative post, besides a few immediate “likes” to express appreciation, their work is quickly forgotten.
People rarely use the search function to find this information at later dates.
You can only repeatedly provide help and expertise so many times before it just gets tiresome.

By contrast, there’s never a shortage of people wanting to spout off baseless opinion as scripture.

It’s everywhere.

I haven't been following the forum as much as I used to after the conversion. Not critical of it, I am just re-acquainting myself with the changes. With that said I haven't seen the dustups you are referring to, but I agree with you it isn't usually necessary. I try to live by the old if you don't have something nice to say better to say nothing.

I like and support spirited discussion and am by no means conflict averse, but some folks just don't seem to know when to let things go. On another note, there are ways to state an opposing opinion in a non-threatening manner. I will admit to getting a little snotty or sarcastic on occasion when I notice a member that seems to be regularly contentious.

Overall, this forum is well run and pretty tame compared to others.

Out of all the forums I frequent, this is by far the best. IMHO, there are a few individuals in every forum that do not seem to possess common courtesy and are disrespectful to other members in the forums but this one has the least. The mods do a great job of weeding out the worst of the agitators. I think the old saying on forums, "Don't feed the trolls." works well with most of the membership here.

I understand what the OP is saying. There seems to be little patience for someone with a different opinion. This happens mostly in the LOUNGE. It does seem to be a recent phenomenon. And it does seem to involve members I’m not familiar with. Although I’m sure my “tone” is not always perfect either. I guess the first step is to acknowledge it.

Every forum has them; the callous, the joyless, the dour, the off putting, the sanctimonious, the condescending, the perpetually angry and bitter vinegaroons who's mission it seems is to suck the life out of well meaning threads.

I don't engage with them.

The staff here is over worked as since the software upgrade there has been a rise in traffic. They can't be everywhere so they implore us to hit the report button at the bottom of a post. They will address it.

I could also use the ignore feature but I won't as if I can't handle reading an offensive post then I better run down to the morgue and requisition a thicker skin. I just treat it like a pothole and simply drive around it.

Hmmmm...........I'm not sure what set the OP off. We've had some arguments here and there, mostly not directly related to any specific firearms, but current events, but I don't recall anything too, too bad....

Hey, stop talking about me like I'm not in the room. ;)
326MOD10, I suspect that it's the times we live in. Everyone is on edge, divided, and fed-up. From what i see most everyone here tries to make allowances, but hey we're human and fed-up like everyone else. Plus, to that we live in a "more civilized society" where people text, post, whatnot, with less face to face time, so less of a chance of getting a poke in the nose for being a bore.
