What Has Happened to the Smith and Wesson Forum?

Firstly, new software or not, this forum remains one of the great ones. My hat's off to the people making it work so well. Just like life in general or specifically at the gun club, knuckleheads come and go. But the gems stick around. Good people abound here. The knowledge and generosity are amazing. This is a great place!

Having said that, it would be interesting to know if the boss can review ignore statistics. I'm sure some users log the ignore click than others do. Not that I want to know how many ignores I've earned, but it would be a way to keep an eye out for potential pot-stirrers.

I thought it was just me.
I've noticed that since the "upgrade" the one or two folks that seem to stir the pot have multiplied, and where it used to take a few pages to devolve into anarchy, it now takes a few posts.
And the occasional run-on sentence, but I digress.
The problem is that the young whippersnappers understand this new fangled software. We used to have security through obscurity. Kind of like the rotary dial telephone of the internet.

I block the crap out of some posters without a second thought.
Yeah, I've axed a few over the years. But then you have potholes in a few threads. I will say that most of the users I blocked have apparently moved on to other hunting grounds. I don't remember the last time I saw the "you have chosen to ignore content by" message.

It's a double edged sword.

I've never found myself missing the banished ones.

I don't ask this question lightly and I know that I have my faults.

I have been guilty of making comments that obviously upset some, so don't take this as a holier than thou type post, but what is the deal here?

I have been a member of this forum for several years and have seen my share of arguments and disagreements but the current level of what is going on is unacceptable.

The moderators do their thing, and do a pretty good job, but we are all adults here and it is time for a little bit of self restraint folks.

I realize that everyone has an opinion and I find many of those enlightening, even if I don't agree. But just because I don't agree doesn't make it okay for me to be a total jerk to the person who has that different opinion.

This forum was put here for the enjoyment of Smith and Wesson firearms with some pretty strict rules on what is and isn't allowed to be discussed. At least make an effort to act like you know this. And if you don't know, because you are new or have forgotten, take a few seconds to read them.

I realize this isn't my place to say anything but somebody needed too, before we lose this place we come to, where we share a common interest in Smith and Wesson firearms.

I won't be responding to the bashing but I hope you take the time to think about what is written here.
I agree with you but it's not just this forum. Nearly everywhere I look online, people seem to have lost to the ability to ignore what others do and/or say, to brush off differing opinions, or simply have the basic restraint to just "scroll on by" anymore. I can't say if it's the anonymity of the internet or we collectively have too much time on our hands, but things sure have changed over the years...:(

I haven't been following the forum as much as I used to after the conversion. Not critical of it, I am just re-acquainting myself with the changes. With that said I haven't seen the dustups you are referring to, but I agree with you it isn't usually necessary. I try to live by the old if you don't have something nice to say better to say nothing.

I've noticed a definite tonal change since the software upgrade. It's not the software itself, but can't quite put my finger on it.
I haven’t been as active here as I once was either. I don’t check in as often nor do I post as much either. The software upgrade is positive overall in my opinion, but it just lacks the feel of the old forum…a warm blue blanket, if you will.

I somewhat attribute it to the fact that older people are averse to change. I guess we just don’t like young whippersnappers coming in and changing things on us “for the better” or “to be more efficient”. Once upon a time, I was one of those young whippersnappers that didn’t like the way older people did things and wanted to implement change. What comes around, goes around as they say.

With that said, I’m still here. Not going anywhere and going to renew membership when it comes up in August. It’s the people here that I like and this is but a conduit to connect to them.

I think you should temper your criticism of run-on sentences because of the clear and lasting influence of Ernest Hemingway, whose stream of consciousness writings could continue, and much to every reader's enjoyment, for a few hundred words, all of which were essential to the meaning, social artistry, and texture of reducing his thoughts to the confining medium of ink, black or otherwise, and the square page.

I don't know.....I think this forum runs really well? I haven't seen anything that crosses the line myself. You are going to have disagreements like Coke vs. Pepsi, but that's what forums are for.

As a whole, I have found there to be more knowledge on this forum than almost anywhere else with subjects from classic revolvers to modern pistols, to practical gunsmithing and everything in between.

That's why I pay extra to be here. The forum is worth it to me.

I'm pretty sure this discussion is not going to end well. I'm only going to ask one question and then I'm getting out of it.

A year or so ago a Canadian conglomerate called virtual scope bought up almost every gun forum on the internet.

They upgraded the software and changed the rules and unfortunately when one Virtual Scope forum is down they're all down.

I'm just wondering if virtual scope hasn't bought this forum and just not announced it yet

Some folks are just jerks. You can try and offer great, helpful information and someone will nitpick... whatever.
The lack of basic respect and courtesy is reflected on roadways as well.
