Ding,ding,ding...We have a weiner! Actually, we have several weiners!

I should have known better than to try and stump all you bacon eaters here on the forum.

It is bacon grease. I was cooking my dinner and the grease is used to season the veggies- in this case, zipper peas.

As Rusty mentioned, it's something my mother and her mother did and we continue the heart healthy tradition.

Grilled chicken breast marinated in Italian dressing, zipper peas, a buttered potato, and a cholesterol pill.

The wife and I are both still working. This is a simple, quick, and satisfying meal.

I'll try to make the next one more challenging.

Our cup of bacon grease is a 1920's vintage coffee cup from the Diner down the street at that time. Emptied, cleaned and refilled as a housewarming/wedding gift 46 years ago. (We keep it in the refrigerator, so it gets cleaned every 5 years.)

Mine is a Campbell's bean can.
When it gets empty, which is often, I throw it away, wash a new bean can and start filling it again.
Best stuff ever...

LOL, my grandpa too - and he watched Hee Haw! Every week
He used to "wilt" raw spinach or even a green salad with hot bacon grease then sprinkle them with a little pepper (the grease provided the necessary saltiness). That was his idea of salad dressing.
The old man lived to be 79 - which is about 10-15 years longer than average for men in my family, so it must not have been all THAT bad for him.
Though he had HBP for the last 30 years of his life and ended up dying from a couple of strokes. His cholesterol level was probably double what is considered "good".
Who knows, with a healthier diet he might have lived 10 years longer - but he wouldn't have been nearly as happy!
