Spot price for lead this morning is 98 cents a pound. Rotometals is going for $2-$3 a pound. A pound is about 44 158-grain SWCs, and I can't buy a box of 100 of those for $2.10.

Assuming it's not full of zinc, go for it.

When I used to cast my own lead bullets, I used wheel weights from local gas stations who always just gave them to me. I would mix in a little antimony to the pot to harden them. Printing press 'lead' was another good source too.

If it's castable lead, a buck is on the low end these days. I just saw some offered on another forum at closer to $1.60/lb delivered and a half dozen boxes went in a few hours.

I just bought 120 pounds from a woman that said she had 1500 pounds to sell for $1 per pound in ingots from her dads estate.$75 per 60 pound flat rate box shipped. I received 25 pounds in a busted box and 3 weeks to refund money. Last week I stopped by a guys truck shop and he gave me 85 pounds of wheel weights that melted down to 55 pounds. 8 pounds of lead will make around 400 .357 bullets. 1/4'' plywood makes a good liner for a medium or large flat rate box and comes free with $50 insurance. Shipping is about $16 on a flat rate and $21 on a large and I read they were going up.<too much info>:) You can shoot wheel weighs with lube about 950fps without adding anything to it. If you haven't got a way to lube and starting out go powder coat or alox. A lot cheaper.
