What is the theory behind the "boating accident"?

Mine was while I was fishing. Dropped the quarter stick of dynamite by accident in the bow of the boat. Lost the fish too!

Mine all fell out of the back of my pickup while I was driving down a rough, rocky, hilly, backwoods road. Darn tailgate latch failed and I only found out when I got to the still. To top it off, them dad burned rednecks stole all my guns before I could turn around and go back for them. A sad day!

My uncle was an avid gigger. One year there was a good sized flood that cleared out the river bed some. he pulled out a Browning A-5 that had been under water for a long, long time. This was close to where some illegal duck market hunters plyed their trade in the early 1900's, spring and fall. Probably one of them. Don't ask me how I know about this, but they have been long gone to their reward. It was basically solid rust. Dad and my uncle took a stick and tapped in into the cartridge. Shot ran out.

When young sometimes my brother would run straight up a hill next to a 200 and some feet bluff that fronted Dad's farm. This allowed him to beat me home to get choice of guns to go hunt with. Laying next to a tree he found a Remington auto (browning Clone) that some squirrel hunter lost before WW 2.
Dad left them in the barn when he sold the farm. My brother was ticked, he wanted them to make some site unseen trades with some local hucksters who had bettered him in a trade. They were good at trading a pig in a poke or a beagle that ran from rabbits.

So yes boating accidents are possible.

P.S. A friend found a Parker side by side BBLS sticking straight up in the mud when a lake level dropped very low. It too was solid rust, but he did look for the rest of it. IT would have been the only parker he could afford he said.

THEORY -- my sweet arse. It was scary. Had to swim for my life and the current was fierce. Carried me miles down stream and I couldn't find the boat either.
Blessings

Funny thread! :) But the Commiewealth of Massachusetts has now wised up to the "tragic boat accident" (or "TBA") excuse and is now, as of January 1, 2015, requiring us to affirm in writing at every license renewal that we have not had a TBA.

Obviously, this newly required declaration could be a big problem for us in the future when Bloomberg's money has finally convinced our corrupt Massachusetts politicians to outlaw all private ownership of guns and start a door-to-door confiscation program. :(

If you don't own a boat at the time they pass that law and start coming around, you will not be allowed to use the TBA excuse. That's why I keep a small inflatable and outboard motor out in the garage even though I gave up sailing many years ago. :p My mama didn't raise no dummy child! :D

Dang, you guys are a bunch of bad boaters. I'll never go fishin' with any of ya.

But I guess it's possible. You could lose your fishing pole in a hunting accident, so you take all of your guns in the fishing boat (for different sized fish, of course), and accidentally shoot a hole in the boat, and lose it all. Could happen to anyone.

If that fish were big enough and bad enough it had to be shot, and you missed it,..........doesn't say much for your shooting! :D

My Mom got really mad at having to dust my gun collection ( I stored them at home as I was moving a lot back in the day; I rented and didn't want to move a gun cabinet)...... so one Sunday when I was out of town.... she dumped them all in a strip mine back up the mountain.....the cut was backfilled (Drag line and D-9) that Monday....

The strip mine covered about 100 acres and has been fully reclaimed.....so I don't know where she dumped them...........oh ya; the cuts were about 80-100 feet deep.........

I'm pretty sure they're still down there.......... somewhere!!!!!!!!!

Oh; my Mom.......

....she passed in 1999

I took a 3 hour tour on the SS Minnow. Needed all my guns just like the Howell's needed all their cash and Ginger needed a studio's worth of clothing.
Can't discuss anymore as the litigation with the Skipper and Gilligan is still pending. :p

Yes, a good way to tease the anti-gun crowd.
Like the New York joke-the licensed gun owner departs this life, the Sheriff's Department or whoever comes looking for their guns,
"What guns? He never said anything about any guns."
